I'm intrigued. Is carving groomers harder to do? Easier?

Hi! As the season approaches I just got a pair of 2018 second year Taro Tamais for half price off, last size available. I wear 9.5 sneakers and 9 (42) dress shoes/boots but I have wideish feet and they feel great for now at size 9, snug but acceptably so. still need to try them properly tho. stoked!

The Taro Tamais are awesome but they are very soft.  Think park boot soft that doesn’t turn to mush after a season.

that 2nd year model (green) was stiffened up though right? then the 3rd year was somewhere in the middle of the two? feel like i remember supra saying that

Year 2 and 3 both got the taller liner, I’m not sure what else it received off the top of my head.

@ultra I think that will depend on your riding style, I like a lot of mobility in the upper of the boot (all directions) which the Taro provides.  The Taro has been my favorite boot by far. I was running a taller adidas liner (Jake blauvelt boot) in mine and they were perfect.  I guess the Taro takes more input to get a “response” but it doesn’t “feel” that way.  I hate comparing them but if you skate/surf I think you will like these.

yeah I actually skate/longboard and had a few waves in my life so I guess I made the right choice. I'm so impatient now that I'm wearing them right now while at home, do you think this will speed up the break in or is it all placebo jej

I sized down a whole size and heatmolded my first year Taro's specifically for the toe box.  Break-in period for riding was minimal compared to anything other than Kaiju's which are perfect right out of the box and feel like effing Air Max's for me.  I've ridden my Taro's for two seasons and haven't had any issues with durability, comfort or packing out.

Was this aimed at me? Because been looking at second years TT as well because want something softer than my Tacticals and with BOA. Have duck feet(wide toebox and skinny heels) so few/second to none boots fit me good right out of the box.

My Man!

Either my toebox is pinched like a bitch, or I get heel lift. Plus, my ankles stick out like the bolts on Frankensteins neck so it's super easy for them to get pressure points. Arches to heaven. Sweat like a sprinkler.

Good times I've had with these feet tho.

On top of that they are flat and have bunions on all four sides. Thats why I also tattooed crazy feet on them. Luckily I have K2's master bootfitter 5 min walk from home. My Tacticals now fit good(not been on snow with last mod) but wanting too try a softer boot with double boa because I'm becoming a lazy old fart.

Anyone looking for really high quality stiff boots should try on the Nitro Capitals. They are Driver X level stiff at least, but the fit, oh my lord the fit. Just very snug, plush, no lift, no pressure points... I'm kind of thinking about getting them and wearing them for a full month every day before the season starts to get them to flex some. But I'm about 150lbs, might cater even better to a heavier dude. Every detail about them reeks quality as well. But they seem to be quite narrow, which is fine for me, but I guess Adidas users won't get a fit.

Do the Tacticals work well for this foot type? I have wide toes with super narrow ankles and high arches. I tried the Samba last year but got super bad pressure points on the top of my foot.

I had the tactical ADV's last year, and after 3 days they started to crease on either side of my instep. Absolutely worthless, which is a shame because they are SO comfortable. Couldn't warranty them because I bought them end of season. 🙁

What's the lacing system like? I've heard of it coming loose.

They work for me now. Overall wide boot so heel grip wasn't satisfying first season 20 days but got mine fixed local master boot fitter before beginning of this so hopefully will the fit be good with tweaks along way.

Have only tried on the Acerra and Responsive in a shop but felt they were the same last and overall fit with same hotspots as the Tacticals.

Went to the local today and all they had were ThirtyTwo boots. Want to get a stiffer boot out of the box than my Lashed that break in to medium so tried on TM-2s and they hurt the sides of my feet immediately in my true size (10). This is going to be a tough search as my local selection is super limited. Might have to look into the big box store in my city or go elsewhere to purchase something 🙁

Also when did boots get so damn expensive? Upwards of $500 canuck bucks for higher-end models these days? No wonder snowborting is becoming unaffordable.

That’s not new at all, you may have just looked mostly at cheaper boots in the past. It does seem like you have to hit $300USD retail to get a real legit model these days, though.

Anyone here on Driver Xs? I've been on the SLX bandwagon for a handful of years and was thinking of trying something new. While I'll still hit the occasional kicker, my park days are pretty much behind me and I'm more focused on bombing and turning. I definitely spend more time on groomers but I'll chase powder whenever I can. I don't grab my board a whole lot either, so "tweaking tricks" isn't a priority.

I kinda know what to expect, but was curious to see if anyone else has made a similar jump in boot stiffness. Did it work out for you, or did you find it to be too much?
