Can’t you just leave the straps forward and let gravity keep them there? I know you can move them to go behind the binding, but you guys are making it sound like they do it on their own. I must be misunderstanding..

From memory, I think the loose hardware issue is just that – loose hardware. The male and female ends don’t have much friction between them at all, so when the Loctite wears out, which doesn’t take much, they just never stay tight.

short answer: yes. it's not a "loose" hardware problem, it's a "loose" strap problem. flipping it in the lift line is no big deal, that was just an example. a major issue, however, is when i put boards in my roof rack. if you put the straps over the highback, they flip down and rub on the roof; if you put them under the highback, the highback flips down and rubs on the roof. i like all of my union bindings (except the forces), but it's frustrating cause this is a non-existent issue with burton. like i said, some unions have this problem, some don't. i guess another part of the frustration comes from not knowing wtf is causing it when the screws' original loctite is still fine and they're torqued down properly. maybe i'm a cry baby, but again, non-existent issue with burton (or most other major binding brands).

i'll stop now. i gotta get some replacement parts for a couple pairs of bindings, so i'll take a couple with me that are having the aforementioned problem to the c3-shop when i go for said parts and ask them "wtf?" they can figure it out/explain it. lol

Get a cargo box lol

@soymateo atlas' are dope. a good mid-flex, very similar in feel (to me, at least) to the vitas, but to be fair i can't really tell the difference between vitas and cartels (never rode them back to back though). i'm a fan, and want another pair in [some form of] white [w/ black].

@triple8sol i often take the rack off/put it back on cause i get shit gas mileage as it is, and that just makes it worse. i can put it on in about 10 min., and take it off in about 6. having a cargo box would be rad, but it'd also be rad to not have to spend $400 to remedy a sporadic problem that shouldn't exist in the first place in union would just figure their shit out.

side note: has anyone every noticed that the highbacks on the atlas appear to be canted in the direction opposite the baseplate they're on? to me, they look like what a right cartel highback on a left baseplate would be. am i the only one?

thanks @slim253; went and fondled a pair of this year's Atlas next to Vita's tonight.  The Atlas was a softer hiback than I remember and felt softer overall than the Vita which is a plus for me.  And they felt more well-built this year compared to other Union's I've picked up in the past that felt overbuilt, not necessarily well thought-out.  I'm picking up a pair for sure.  I can imagine as a total package they would be predictably similar to Vita's range of response.  I also dig the Union ankle strap as it was a little more flexible than other brands' similar style plastic straps

In theory I also like that the Atlas hiback is shorter to the middle of the board.  Hoping that frees up some risk of calf bite and allows more mobility inward with how I position my knees and legs when turning

@soymateo Elimination of calf bite is one of the main things that made me switch from Burton to Union. I loved cartels, but the 2010 and 2013 versions (last ones I had) gave me some issues with pressure on my lower calf. The first pair of unions that I owned immediately solved that issue.

I forgot that C3 doesn't ship to Canada... does anyone in Canada have a line on a pair of these? I really, really want them for my Koruas.

now's shorter highbacks would help ya with that as well!

oh yea, forgot to mention I fondled like 4 diff pairs of Now's.  They were all way stiffer than I expected.  The O-drive was insane.  I don't know how you all ride those and the FC carbons

Force vs Strata on a stiff all mtn board?

I kinda like the Strata better, more cushioning, softer base, stiffer hi-back.. (although  the base won't make a difference on the Aviator...)

Should I save 30 bucks and invest these in something else or just go with my gut?

Union guys, help me out here....

Do you guys rotate your hibacks?  I tried rotating my front foot and the inside of hiback sticks so far out I can’t fit my heel into the heelcup.  This is f’ing ridiculous...

That said... yep, most people would never need the Odrives. I find the Drives plenty enough, and as stiff as I'd ever want to ride.
