i bought a pair of cartels this year and did not like them.

baseplate was to stiff and the footbed was way to mushy.

its like it takes away to much of the feeling when riding. whatever that means. =P

i would call them dead feeling ^^

Yeah I prefer a harder material under heel and toes as well. I hear you on the mushy part. I rode a lot of the regular cork malavitas on my Aether past season. Very freestyle friendly and flexible vs. the teams and I could take them to anywhere basically, but would miss some of the support I like from the team highbacks. Oh, and fuck double take ratchets; plenty of days with fresh snow where I was bashing them open. Not a total freeze up, but annoying. I like the asym hammock strap, but have to keep them in the higher position, otherwise I would get some circulation problems.

Edit: the mushy padding and overall the malavitas provide more "feel" than the Teams for instance, but are not as solid on edge or as snappy on turns. That airbag on Nitro bindings is niiiiice.

Have you tried Flux? In my experience, they have the least-padded baseplates and are otherwise very well-built bindings.

I havent but intrigued! Have been looking at the xf that are on sale. The talk about the responsiveness is promising.

I do run d3o insoles so that's quite a lot of dampening already. The diodes discouraged me out of bigger features and uneven hard terrain, a bit of cushioning for my knees go a long way riding fatigue free.

I wasn't going to say anything but TMs are magic.

You should probably buy a pair of XFs though.

@coleslawed, how do you find the aluminum baseplate? Rattles, too unforgiving? I like how the nitro teams feel, smooth tip to tail but snappy with that heelcup. The machines are a bit clunky though, with lack of a better word.. Could try swapping the stiffer ankle straps from the machines and see how that feels.

they just didn't seem to offer me anything new/felt a little lifeless. I've found I just prefer bindings with more cushioning/dampening underfoot. part of the reason I got rid of my XF's, too.

But the 2020 TM's are looking so pretty.

The "XF" might be a mistake..

Edit: no it's not. XF's are looking pretty.

The JohnJ colorways have been the best on the TMs the last couple of years, and that might be my favorite yet. It looks like the highback on the XF has been redesigned too.

Dunno if there's a flux thread, but seems there's already so many knowledgeable people here! Appreciate it.

Googled pics of the discs, which seem pretty standard. I'm a size us8 in Ions generally, 8,5 in Nitros, Vans etc... Being a us7-10.5 according to manufacturer, how centered toe-heel would you guys estimate I'd be if I wanted tip to tail micro adjustments on the Flux bindings? For reference, on a 1.0 frame in Now's (had the Recons), I would be a bit too much heel heavy, so had to compromise width options. I'm most comfortable with aa 55cm stance and most boards go from 54 to 56cm without mini discs or micro adjustability. Getting used to 56cm wouldn't be too bad I guess.

If this thread is still about Ride, I think I'm going to get a 160W Berzerker next year. The 'wide' is still only a 257 ww, so don't know why they call it a wide. Hoping it rides even better than the K2 Manifest I had this year.

lol what does this even mean? how did you come to notice the baseplate (which is what exactly? theres barely anything under foot. do you mean the spar?  which is about an inch off the board) is too stiff?

how does the baseplate, which is mostly around your boot take away the feel?

straps and highback are pretty noticeable. everything else isn't.

i think a person MIGHT be able to tell the difference between a spar made of carbon and one made of nylon with everything else being the same, but thats about it.

silly post

because its wider than the non wide. pretty clear. didn't know there was some supra standard all companies are supposed to adhere to.
