Late to the party but if the Leader Board is a big mountain board shouldnt it be atleast 165+ or 167-169 will be even better.

So does the Panhandler take on the Speed Date as the official board and do I need both or can I get a way with SJ56?

Regardless of which is the official board....... they are both different enough that you could (should?) get both 😀

But the Speed Date is a 2019 board, so if you want to be able to say I was riding the Speed Date before it was cool...... you gotta get on it fast.  PH is only a 2018 board.

Pffft 2018 is soooo last season.

PH = floaty, soft-ish, flat camber, very easy to pop & press, loose feeling, short, wide board with a pretty decent effective edge and a sweet sidecut. In other words it's a floaty, playful short powder board that is pretty fun to carve, but not to race your friends on.

Of course I haven't ridden it, but the SD = stiffer, camber, longer edge, narrower. In other words... it's a more aggressive 'carving oriented' board so that you can be the first back at the lift and Instagram how you had to wait for your friends because they're so slow.

If you already have a SJ 156.... I don't really see the need for a PH. Or if you like crushing groomers and dragging your elbows..... then the SD looks pretty cool. But you'd probably have to wait for the bigger sizes to come out.

Whooooa demoed a Panhandler and a Skeleton Key today.......

Did not want to give up that Panhandler. It was awesome. Rode a 156 and that thing floated like crazy and was just incredibly fun. Found it much nicer on groomers (quicker edge to edge) than my 161 Fish and about equally floaty. Which is pretty amazing, but that 156 PH did not sink.

Panhandler is kind of a floatier, looser Fish, with a lot more tail. Pretty forgiving and lots of pop. Really really nice on groomers. Mid flex. Now I see why so many love the Skipjack... well this one is similar, but has more tail.

No need for camber on this board... yeah camber is cool, makes it more precise, but I rode a 159 Branch Manager (dir camber) and this PH was more fun and equally nice on groomers if not better, on both short and long turns. I did trees, steep faces, everything and had a blast. We also had knee-deep and not crowded at all so that helped. Face shots all day 😀

Ahh just noticed, much more EE on the 156 PH than even the 161 Fish. And pretty similar to the Skipjack.

Rode both with EST Genesis and kind of back to back with my 159 LL. I prefer the LL over the SK, but the PH got me thinking. I'm about 99% certain I'm getting a PH.

6 snowflakes and an extra for buuuuutters.

So today i was about to buy my lift ticket when i saw this thing standing there.
5 min later the following happened:
The owner of the board takes it and walks (with his hardboots) to the liftline.
I walk up to him and say "hey nice board you got there... would you sell it to me?"
"yes i would" he responded - i said "ok cool - how about 100 bucks?"
he said "ok cool. but only cash"
i give him 100€ we shake hands and go ride...

If you feel like the fish is too "turny" and has too little tail,  perhaps too specialized, you want a PH --- its side cut / longer tail make it feel like a more freeride fish as it doesn't want to pull you into turns as much.  It feels more comfortable pointing it.

The flexes/flat profile/ taper are near identical but they ride very different.   For non deep days I'd ride my PH everytime.

Definitely the best one! I'm happy with my goldfish, but the jaws edition would be my first choice now!

I like the 09 LTD. But overall, goldfish with a blacked-out topsheet.

Shoutout to @awd1105 for letting me take some turns on his Deep Thinker 160 yesterday at our local shop's ride day. Man, does that thing RIP! ... Gahh damn. Such a groomer destroyer, and soo stable at speed. Ripped thru chunder with ease, did not worry on it for one second (I'm ~175lbs, for reference). Def considering one now and is a strong candidate to challenge the Speed Date, as my next board.

Was solid ripping turns with him too, just absolutely railing turns on it. Dope frankenstein  work on his binders setup as well, Genesis baseplate with GenX highback, if I remember correctly. Was a pretty sweet combo. Cheers dude 🤙🏻.
