Thanks everyone.

Will order Dump Truck 163 then 🙂 I ride in Hokkaido, Nagano trees were too steep/dense for me. Going to Austria this weekend will get it delivered there.

@sxjp thanks for the offer. Right now I need one freeride board. A have too many boards at home for a country where it snows once in 5 years 🙂

Having ridden both the Austrian Alps and Hokkaido, I think you're going to have to compromise somewhere and consider splitting out 'freeride' and 'powder' boards. In the Alps you're looking at above-treeline, big mountain riding with higher-density snow. In Hokkaido, you're looking at lower altitude, dense trees, mellow terrain, and low-density snow. Different boards are going to excel in either condition.

I'm roughly your size (about 5 kg / 10 lbs lighter) and personally in the Alps I'd be on something burly like a Gnu Billy Goat 164. In Hokkaido, I'd pick on a snow-surf short fat swallow like a Jones Storm Chaser, K2 Cool Bean, Rossi Sushi, Moss Performance Quad, etc. Maybe something a little less extreme like a Mind Expander 58.

That's not to say you can't ride both conditions on one board, but something to keep in mind.

That's why a board like Dump Truck is such a great compromise.  Based on the Landlord....... I can ride that thing anywhere and anyday (except when it's icy.... which I just don't go riding at all then).

Lots of float, stiff/aggressive enough for steep terrain but definitely not a plank, great on non-icy groomers, poppy, super quick edge to edge because of the taper, setback and extremely reactive core (The DT does not have the same kick-ass Custom X core as the LL, and it's more squared-off than the LL; but still both boards should be pretty similar)...

Yeah 2 boards would be the best. But riding Whistler, which can be considered a big mix of alpine/low elevation terrain with seriously variable riding conditions and elevation drop.... plus having taken the LL to interior BC, where it's more flatter terrain with drier snow and consistently cold/dry snow conditions...... the LL kills it.

Anyone tried Genesis + Fish combo? Been using malavitas for ages and think Genesis would be a better suit with Fish to upgrade the surfing feeling in deep fluffy pow?

Yeah I had Genesis on my Fish for a while. But then set it up with Genesis X and it's way better. More like perfect. I'm 170 lbs and riding a 161 Fish though. So I think if I was on a 156 Fish, It'd be pretty sweet on regular Genesis.

I wasn't a big Genesis fan. Much more a Cartel guy. Not enough feedback out of the Genesis, and highback rotation made the FLAD work kind of funny. If you really want surfiness, I'd take a look at NOWs. Or Salomon ShadowFit binders if you're good with ski boards.

155 lbs on a 156 fish puts me pretty much in the same shoe. Is it because of the responsiveness?

My gf speaks highly of her Now's conda. I will definitely keep it as an option.

Yeah Now's would be a great match to a board like the Fish because.... Now will add a little bit of dampness (which the Fish has zero. ie Fish is very lively and gives a lot of feedback - this is perfect in super smooth snow, but hell on chop) and also adds a bit of edge power/response (the Fish has very short edge, so if you can add some edge response, it helps make it a bit more versatile).

All of this is moot if you're riding a Fish in waist deep dry Japan pow. But if you're mixing it up, then a bit of extra response and dampness is nice to have.

Yeah for some extra response. I am 'undersized' for a 161 Fish but I find the stiffer/more responsive bindings help. So I get the float of a 161 Fish but with a bit of the response of a smaller one...... you can't get more float out of a small board (unless you lose a lot of weight), but there's ways to get more response out of a bigger board 😉

My two favorite bindings are probably Genesis X and Now Drive. Both are great.

Then for slightly softer-feeling but equally great.... would be Genesis and Pilots.

Drives provide a bit more response and are very very damp and simple. Carving on Nows is awesome.

Genesis X just feel amazing and comfortable. More than enough response, they have the Hinge (which I really like) and the springbed thingy; everything just works perfectly and simple... they feel great on all the boards I've tried them on.

I don't remember if I've tried my Fish with my Drives.... I probably have. I'm pretty sure it's a great combo.

Can I assume that the dampness will also by the point that shines on the spring bed of est genesis X?

Here we go. Guess one of Now drive or genesis x will be final decision.

Speaking of which, is genesis x is wider on the footbed compared with malavitas?

My size 8 Ion (this season) works perfectly on recent years Malavitas (2017/2018) in size M with a bit gap on the lateral sides. But the room left on a size M genesis x (2016 I believe), I can literally stick a finger through. Or Burton just narrowed the width recently?

Not sure. This will depend on your boots. Bring your boots to the shop when you buy them and check the fit......

The springbed is a little damp, but not as damp as Nows or even the autocant bed in the Genesis. Those are super cushy. But the springbed is damp enough and you get nice energy/rebound out of them. I like them, but it's not a 100% selling point feature for me. I think it's similar to what Bent Metal has started doing with their footbeds recently...

I'll need to demo the Genesis X at some point. They weren't available when I picked up the Genesis. Genesis was just always just a bit too soft for me. My Pilots are similarly proving to be a little soft for my tastes.

The old v1 hanger 1.0 Drive was perfect flex for me, but I downsized boots and they no longer fit. I just picked up a pair of the 2018 Drives, so I'm pumped on them.

Yeah Gen X are great. Stiff enough but not over powering.

Similar to the Now Drives.... the Drives are reasonably stiff and very responsive, but they do not overpower the board. I've had them on a mix of boards and both Gen X and Drives are great all over the range...

The regular Genesis can feel a bit too soft on some boards. Same with Pilots. But they do have pretty good response. I would say they are better for people who like the feeling of a flexier binding or for people who ride mostly medium flex boards.

For example, Diodes are really stiff and really responsive. More responsive than Genesis X, but when paired with a reasonably medium flexing board... the Diodes just overpower it.

I have a bunch of different bindings (Burton, Now, Flux, Rome, Ride...), mostly because I just like to have the different feel, try out and experiment around..... but if I had to choose it's either Gen X or Drives.
