In complete contrast, just finished watching Haller's new short film: Soft. A MUST watch. I know some are a little burnt out on the "artsy" edits, but I think Haller balances it perfectly. The riding clips are nothing short of awesome. The method segment, close to perfection imo. Check it out dudes, worth it 🙏🏻.

*link should work now

Should have called it "PUFF" 🙂

That's definitely a repeat watch. I was tripping over the moonlight night riding section and the slo-mo method.

is Shaun White off Burton - he's not on the team page anymore

Yup, they extended his contract to include last season's Olympics, but now he's done. Let's be honest, it's not snowboarding he enjoys, it's winning contests.

Guess I'll need to grab some of those Burton team headshots die-cut stickers I've seen here in the shops featuring him (at least I'm pretty sure I saw his smug mug on there). Collector's items! ;p

Anyone know if Burton will make another SK twin?

There is a guy at Big Boulder riding a board labeled a Kilroy SK Twin.  No tail or nose notches.

I asked and he said its a proto and not sure if they are making it a production board.

I remember clips of Shaun White as a tiny grom in videos and he was hitting huge booters and floating massive airs for a little kid and it totally stoked me out. He'd be riding pipe with Hawk and it was like...damn, this kid is mad talented. Inspiring for sure. But over time the stories that would trickle through made it seem like he was a dick.

But how much of that was jealousy from others, people that wanted to keep White on a level... and White knowing he didn't have to play their cool guy game. He was on his own level. This is probably one of those "famous kid" scenarios where the average person has not one fukkin clue.

White got insanely rewarded for doing one thing and then seemed to get vibed in other aspects of the sport by his peers whom he had less and less in common with. The psychologist in me understands that's a very difficult path to walk alone and yeah, it's easy to see how he might be a dick to a lot of people in a lot of ways.

It seems that most guys come up in contests to sort of prove their place and make a name, but then transition to freeriding. That's the arc of most pro snowboarders. And there was a brief moment when B dropped 'Its Always Snowing Somewhere' where it seemed White might even try that. But even in that video you could see he was living a different life. It would've been very odd for him to pursue any other forms of riding as it likely would've put him personally on a lower level and he was already way too far above that.

White took snowboarding to a place that only he has been able to achieve, during a time when snowboarding was at its most popular. It sure doesn't represent the majority of snowboarding and it's easy to find fault with it and him because of that. But it might just be one of those things where no matter what someone does they're going to get shit on anyhow.

Edit: I realize I might be coming off as a White nut hugger apologist... I'm really not. I don't have any real feelings about the guy either way.

lol my bad! I'm embarrassed I forgot.  I actually worked for the PR company that launched the original XGames while living in Providence, guess that's why I mixed it up.  Newport is amazing; solid waves; miss that coastline nearly everyday

The rumours and talk about him, I don't care about. I don't know what went on with his band and whatnot. Doesn't bother me, that shit's personal, that's his business.

...

Don't forget Danny got seriously wrecked doing the stuff Shaun does.... so the level he reached, with the intensity he reached should at least, be respected. The dude went HUGE. So it's not like he's cruising for those trophies.

In the case of the young woman who was the drummer in Shaun White's band, it's well beyond rumors or personal matters. He was sued by her for general harassment, sexual harassment, and breach of contract. He ended up settling with her and paying her an undisclosed amount. During the court case, things like his texts to her were presented as evidence of his behavior. They were pretty fucked up things to be sending from a male boss to an underage girl (he met her when she was 15 and he was 20, and he employed her as his band's drummer from when she was about 17 until she was about 22).

As for Danny Davis, I thought that his big injury was the spinal fracture in Park City in 2010, which was the result of a 3:30 AM drunken ATV accident? Were you maybe thinking of Kevin Pierce and his brain injury that same year?

Danny Davis had a fairly big injury in the run-up to last year's Olympics. There's some footage in the trailer for his new movie. I think he screws up his shoulder hitting the lip.

Yeah that too, I had the image from his movie when i thought about this, but in the post I was actually talking about the big Kevin Pierce injury, not Danny Davis'.

As for Shaun White and the drummer, court or not... it's the same thing: rumours. Nobody heard the full story because in the end they reached an economic settlement; but it is pretty clear he had more to lose than she did regardless of the outcome. And again, I don't care about how others live their life as much as I dont care how others run their company. I'm busy enough with my life and my company.

I remember reading the texts in question and thinking it looked more like a pissing match over the haircut beef and the SH allegation seemed a ploy. I mean... it's his band, his money, he should be able dictate the direction of the look...costume... presentation...etc. That's all it seemed like to me. If those texts were sexual harassment... pack it up, rock n roll is dead.

I think that you may have missed a lot of the texts and at least some of the context. Shaun, a multi-millionaire adult celebrity, employed a teenage girl for his vanity music project and then texted her explicit sexual images, pornography, and in the end withheld pay from her. These were the facts established in court. Nothing particularly "rock n roll" about that to my way of thinking.

The pay issues were allegedly prompted by disagreements about her haircut, makeup, and clothing. Breach of contract for not paying her and wrongful termination were the original lawsuit. The harassment stuff was added in a later filing, and the text messages were presented as evidence in court of his behavior along those lines.

Sure, there are two sides, but Shaun's behavior towards an initially underage girl who was his employee clearly crossed a line as defined by legislative statutes and legal precedent, not to mention social convention and simple common sense. She may not have been upset by it at the time, and her lawsuit may have been in support of a cynical money grab or an attempt at leverage to address the back pay issue, but there is clear documentation that his behavior towards her was, at the very least, inappropriate in an employer/employee relationship and exposed him to liability. Shaun didn't have a leg to stand on once the texts were presented as evidence in the case, so he paid rather than gamble on what outcome and award the court would come back with.
