Guys how's the edge hold on the Family Tree boards?

I'm considering the Hometown Hero for next season coming from a T. Rice but worry it won't hold as well.

Posted this a few pages back.  Not sure if you guys saw it.

Family Tree boards is a mixed bag. All boards can be quite different from short-fat pow sticks to freeride guns to banked slalom stuff.

What I'm saying is... it depends on the board. Most of them have good edgehold. But you have to look at each individually.

Seeing your post above, the Hometown Hero should have solid edge hold.

that’s a pretty broad question, most of the boards are cambered with a rockered nose..I’ve owned a bunch (CA,FA, SK, HS, JW, Cheetah..)  and thought they were all great on groomers.

Not to overstate the obvious but the famtree edges are not going to feel the same as a MAGAtraction which bite the snow more. Of course all dependent on what edge mechanisms are on whatever you're use to riding, seeing as some boards have lots of it and some have none. Whatever you ride you will get use to if you put in the time to get use to it.

In conclusion, they will not feel the same, but you will learn and adapt regardless... if you so desire.

Yeah, boards like Flight Attendant, Skeleton Key, Con Artist, Dump Truck, etc have long edge and really good edge hold.

Boards like Branch Manager, Stun Gun, Cheetah etc have shorter edges, but they are mostly cambered so they still  have good edge hold; just not as much as the above. And still are really fun on groomers.

But all of them are either directional camber or flat/rocker which makes them very consistent. So even when the edges are not really long (like Cheetah for example), the consistency from camber (and other bits of the design) kind of makes up for it as you know how much to depend for edge hold at all times...

Guys how's the edge hold on the Family Tree boards?

I'm considering the Hometown Hero for next season coming from a T. Rice but worry it won't hold as well.

Posted this a few pages back.  Not sure if you guys saw it.

I tested the Hometown Hero back-to-back with the Lib Dynamo this weekend.  Both are outstanding boards.  I'm buying both (well, as far as Mervin is concerned either the Dynamo or the Gnu version, the Antigravity).  First chair icy groomers in the morning to chopped up slush in the afternoon didn't matter on any of them.

The slight advantage for edge hold on icy snow went to the Dynamo, but it was only slight.  IMO the advantage with magnetraction is that it makes getting grip in icier conditions easier, but not greater (it makes the edge hold more easily-accessible) -- you can get just as much edge hold on the HH as on the Dynamo, but it's easier to get on the Dynamo.  Commit to your edge and both will hold you just fine.  This wasn't just hard snow.  It was legitimately icy, hardpacked nonsense in the morning.  We're in the freeze-thaw part of the season, so this was the snow that you can hear high-pitched scraping generated by riders at the top of the hill when you're standing at the bottom of the hill.  This was the stuff that you watch people ride (slide) over from the chair lift, but they leave no tracks behind them.  The stuff that even when it's properly carved it's still loud.

Point is, don't worry about edge hold with the Hometown Hero.  It holds as much as you're willing to commit to the edge.

Thanks guys.  ZC1 that was especially helpful comparing magnetraction to a regular edge.

I'd been considering the Dynamo as well but the TNT base had me worried.

As long as the hold is somewhat comparable I'm good with that.

And we finally got the "family" out in some pow today.

GF, who has been riding cambered jones decks the past few years is in love with the stick shift.   No details beyond :  "After 2 runs I really fucking like it"...My thoughts are she was riding with extreme confidence.

Stun gun is a little sketchy on hard pack in the morning hard stuff (I think i'm going to move the stance up EL style an inch tonight) but absolutely came alive mid day when the snow started falling.   It's smooth as fuck, much more versatile and less turny than the fish + more aggressive than the PH(its gone, stun replaced)   Really liking this deck, reminds me a little of the flight attendant.  If you're on the fence, grab it.

Did any of you SG guys move the stance forward EL-fish style or just reference?
