The Flagship/Solution were the same as the Rossi Jones Experience, his board for his last two years with Rossi. The Jones models were way stiffer though. [edit: for the record, the Rossi boards had magne-traction]

The Hovercraft is a direct copy of the Gentem Mantaray. Not 'inspired by', a direct copy. As in JJ borrowed a Mantaray and sent it in secret to the factory where they copied it.

Xavier's Rossi pro model before Jones left to start his own company was also pretty much already what it is now. Rossi was 100% using magnatraction on camrock freeride boards before Jones left. Nidecker/Jones didn't do anything new beyond branding and marketing.

I know Rossi had the Experience which was Jones' pro model.  Never owned one or looked into it at the time, but I think I remember Jones complaining that Rossi wasn't interested in creating a split for him which led him down the path of creating Jones.  I don't know when Rossi brought in mag.  Anyhow, if the Flagship/Solution is a direct copy of the Experience, and he just brought it across into his own brand, pretty sure he's entitled to do that given it was his pro model.

Well about the Hovercraft and Mantaray copy, fuck that then.

I have no problem believing that he used the mantaray to end up with the hovercraft, but some of their specs are wildly different, like *gasp* sidecut. When we’re talking about a difference that is more than 2m, you can absolutely infer a general difference in their temperament.  One is built for tight turns and quick maneuvering, while one, although the shape deceives most people, is a total point-it freeride board with a pretty straight edge. I would expect the mantaray to be more in the style category of something like the con artist. So, if he did “directly copy” it, he sure didn’t copy it very well..

I agree. 2M is a big difference esp considering the range of sidecuts is basically 2 meters

Am I doing something wrong?

It appears that my Aviator can't hold wax near the edges for two days..

I wax it freshly the night before I go out, scrape excess wax off in the morning and find the base near the edges (especially close to the bindings) to be pale as fuck in the evening when I get home..

Same with my gf's Dream Catcher..

your wax is softer than the conditions warrant probably.

Are there any differences in conditions or type of wax you are using? If not, peculiar. Not unusual, though. Next time, try using ice or cold wax along the edges, and then whatever wax you would normally use for the conditions on the rest of the base. Wax burns up much faster on the edges because when on edge, it focuses the pressure on that skinny little area and strips it quickly. Colder wax is harder, as it’s meant to better hold up to the harsh crystals of cold snow and ice. Pardon me if you already knew that 🙃

I always thought the hovercraft was an evolution of his Half Gun model on Rossignol. Spec wise they are closer but of course I also see the influence of gentemstick, I just don’t think it’s a direct copy.

The half gun had a pretty narrow waist width like most boards and wasn't meant to be ridden shorter, the volume shift philosophy was done by gentem(and others) way before the hovercraft

Riding in europe? Yeah my box knife does the same, now three days in same temperature cold conditions and the Kazu has held without problems. Ice tends to do that but definitely differences in bases as well as wax. Like my 16/17 DOA always had that regardless of wax settings.

Tunisian slave expander 158 hovered me like nothing else before. Shit is like cheating, but then again I've never ridden a true pow board in nipple deep (at places) Everywhere I went today I couldn't feel the bottom apart from tracks.

I'm starting to see the hype in all these fat pow specific old man boards, daaamn.

Already used the red wax (-4 to -12deg) on the edges..

I guess, I shouldn't have bought the non-fluorinated wax then.. O.o
