The Rocket still doesn't have mag - and it's great. When I rode the Gnu Swallowtail Carver (mag) and the Lib Round Nose Fish (no mag) back to back I noticed the difference. There's a difference (mag is more trench-y, no mag is more ginsu knife-y) but it doesn't make or break the day for me. I just adapt.
Thinking back I recall when my primary ride was C2Btx and then riding anything without mag felt a bit slippery. But now that I ride primarily no-mag, when I ride anything with that style of edge it feels like it bites the snow.
I mean... for the intended purpose it does it, and for the majority of casual riders I think it's actually a benefit. But for a real carving board it doesn't make a whole lot of sense.
I guess whatever you get use to sort of becomes your preference.
I think the best application of mag is for park kids who ride in hard conditions regularly. They can de-tune the shit out of their edges and still get some grip on hardpack. It is also good for folks who will never maintain their edges, which is a lot of people. I think it's a detriment in every other application.
I could swear they advertised the 2019 xoxo with mtx, whereas on the 2018 reviewers criticised the lack thereof..
Maybe I'm just confused now, because I compared soooo many different boards for my better half..
(could it be the banana smoothie that only just now got mtx?)
nope. friend had the 2013 smoothie. mag also.
