Haha, whatever dudes.

I think in skateboarding and snowboarding mid nineties (that's from when I can remember) we were already referring to fish shaped boards as fish. Burton just stole that shit by taking the most natural term to characterize that shit by branding a board and now all you think about is burton when fish comes up. Now it must've been a pretty iconic board for that to happen, but fuck that.

Kinda like basmati and uncle bens or apple vs apple if stretching the logic a bit.

Burton fish owners a bunch of snowflakes, c'mon man. I didn't take travis' words as referring to burton's fish, just overall the shape, but then again I never owned one or slept with one for that matter..

Yeah there was swallow tails, asymmetrical, and every idea under the sun in mid nineties snowboard shapes. By the turn of the century it was popsicle city! The B fish was one deck with a cult following going for a pow surfy vibe. A quiver board before quiver boards were a thing. Not like they sold a ton. But they stuck with it and evolved it and spawned a ton of new shit from it.

Hey Merv congratulations for jumpin on the bandwagon 20 years later! You did better!...wit 7 bumps (5 of which are unnecessary) and banana! Here’s a Fukin cookie!🍪

pfffffffffffft

I don't remember the last Travis vid that didn't include dramatic slo-mo sequences, drone footage and a shot of a heli diving off a steep face.

I’m done merv bashing. Truth is I have nothing against em. Their boards are fine it’s the marketing that annoys me.  99% of what I say is satire anyway. I don’t even take myself seriously. Like I said if someone was offering up their Orca I’d give it a spin and probably smile while doing it!

different strokes right? Better only exists in one’s own mind!🤔🤔

Gotta say, great marketing if it's creating this much feelz already!

I think they've had plenty of fish style boards before the orca, but now that one has travis' name on it game on mothafuckas! Hahaa, love it.

Bumps on mervins have been a hit and miss, probably due to design or poor finishing, but damn that Aether is on another level. Probably already said this, but good edge finish on a camber stick > rocker and bumps, but that doesn't mean they don't have their place. A lot of pros here ride that shit and not just from mervin: Borealis, smokin, niche... Carving's cool but...

Oh yeah and "easy snowboards" from france as well. Bumps work ya'll.

Is all cool! I'm not a huge mervin fan, but even less of an idiology fan. I like it all, if it works and there's camber that's shit as well as rocker with bumps that's shit, you know?

I think magnetraction helps offset the rocker. That could be a bullshit assumption though. I'd be interested in trying something like C2 without magnetraction.

Mervin branding and art is definitely a turn off, but there's something to hate in all big brands though once you dig in a bit.

Burton - The patagucci of snowboard brands. "Mystery", "Family Tree", even the term "Fish" is all just marketing.

K2/Salomon/Rossi - Ski brands. I mean listen to this rep. (Tim Eddy for president though)

Nitro - Just the brand name is cringey. Sure they have the Quiver series, which is great if you rock size 10s, but do you really want to walk in to a shop and ask for a "Quiver Cannon"? And while I'm on it, the term "quiver" is just a douchey way to say you own more than one snowboard.

Never Summer - Libtech for dads from Texas.

Capita/DC/etc... - Always seems to be ridden by the "Yewwww, for da boysz!" types.

Japanese Brands - Exotic mysticism at high prices. The "vinyl just sounds better" of snowboards.

Jones - Jones

i prefer to be positive and just look at the radness that just about every brand is producing. i am still somewhat new to this (but try to be true to this too!) so my hatred for ski brands and any of the old guy get off my lawn stuff is just non-existent for me. i'd be truly shocked if i couldn't find at least one thing from every brand that i wouldn't want to try.

stuff piques my interest for a while, i explore it and then i move on, like korua, or its something that lasts a little longer like the beast line from gnu. i was SO into all funky shapes and had nothing normal in my quiver, then i became obsessed with the normalness of the tip/tail shape of the beast so had to get it back. it's all flowing for me. most lib tech graphics are the only thing i truly can't stand...but then there's the ejack which i dig

c'est la vie...lets just have fun playing snowboardz guyyyyzzzzzz

Had the rome agent rocker 5 years ago. Solid pop and flex but was just slippin all over. If you want that profile, some kind of edge grip tech is a must in my limited experince. Some never summer fan will probably jump in soon and praise the vario whatever grip.

Whole post is pretty hilarious and spot on! Last line is the best tho

And I have nothing against any of these brands. Either own or have owned something from almost all of them.

It’s only snowboarding. Was it ever really meant to be taken seriously? If it was it would be called skiing.
