I'm 6'2'' (188cm) and 181lbs (81 kg) w/o gear and that puts me, according to Yes' size chart, in the middle of the weight range for the 154 (150-200lbs)) and at the low end border for the 157 (180-220+). US boot size 11.

Will be riding mostly on groomers, cruising, turning, carving, sometimes high speed, occational powder in open snow, no trees. From your experience with the Optimistic, which size would best suite my weight and riding?

People upsize and downsize depending on feelz. I have or have had boards way out of any suggestion ranges both ways, sizes ranging from 147 to 162.

Since we know nothing about you and your riding style and level, it's hard to say. If you're a good rider you could do 154 or even size up. Preference.

Been riding for 20 years and consider mye self an advanced rider. Most of my experience is from camber profiles. Aggressive riding, no freestyle/park. As I'm stepping into a new type of board, I thought I would ask for opinions. Thanks for replying though.

The Y based off the optimistic with more rocker in the nose and tail sounds... pretty intriguing. A little softer (still called 8/10)... and a bit easier to float. Idk. Could be good for lighter guys like myself.

I have a 154 that I rode w/ no problems in Japow at 235lbs. 

 

 

And oof, that Hybrid is singing the song of my people.

Had a blast today on the PYL 162. Stiff setup with nitro machines and capital tls boots. Carves great, a bit quick but through anything. Longer arcing turns weren't super smooth though. Rapid at quick turns. 

Hasn't snowed in over 2 weeks, been sunny and warm. Side country stuff is fun due to soft snow at lunch time. The board just straight line charges through anything. I think the nose has the perfect amount of give not to be super energetic and bouncy, sucks up everything. Never felt that stable in near spring conditions. Solid landing gear as well, could send it deep. 360s were a chore, but I'm now about 140lbs with a size 8 boot, so a lot of board for dicking around.. Can see the hype though. A playful freerider that works in many conditions.

What is up with the weight ranges that YES puts on their boards? I had a 2018 Greats 152 and felt that was a little too small for me at ~65kg. Was looking at the PYL and Jackpot for this year and I would be right in the middle of the suggested weight range for the 152 Jackpot, but I suspect it will feel too small.

I guess my question is where you guys sit in the weight range and does it feel accurate?

recommended: 160-210

I'm 5'11" / 178lbs and very happy with it.

(That said, the Optimistic stats put me on a 154 which I would consider really short so yeah dunno…)

I never really look at weight recommendations, more the shape, profile and think what I want from it and then size accordingly. Depending what I wanted to do with a new Yes Greats, I could go from 151 to 156 or even 159 if I wanted a floaty pow twin with a bit of power behind it. I think it comes down more to riding style than actual performance limitations. Longer boards for me are just more difficult to throw around, unless they're the Überspoon, but even for some freeride missions, I felt almost as comfortable on a centered 154 Box Knife as I did on the Über or 157 Kazu or 162 PYL. Not that I would get that for that specific purpose, but you know...

All that nonsense said, me too at 68-72kg would feel the 151 Greats to be too small for all around riding, which is mainly what it's intended for. I want a bit more landing gear, so prefer a 155-158 for a nimble all around jumper/charger, regardless whether the board is volume shifted or not.

I agree with most of this. What someone wants out of a board is going to be different than what someone else wants so it comes down to the rider knowing what they hope to get and sizing or shaping accordingly. I think these sizing recommendations are just... guessing guidelines for average riders. I especially take umbrage with the idea that soft boards are "beginner" boards and stiff boards are "expert". I mean, I get why they market it that way, but it's not really true. Style, layup, flex patterns, purpose, so on and so forth don't dictate the expertise of a rider. Ride what's right for the purpose and stop making people wonder if they have to ride a stiff board to prove themselves. ffs. Does stiffness in the nose mean stiffness in the waist? Complex flex patterns bruh. Does a wide stiff triax glass board that feels like a door mean it's more expert than a softer biax pow board? Idk. I digress. 

When I'm mentally adding up all the cofactors like conditons, snow types, vertical drop, grade, height, weight, riding style, terrain, etc. etc. I'll come up with my own ideas about what I want and try to match it to a board.

Haha, the best riders ride pretty soft boards, even for charging around. Then there's the JJ wannabes, who are pretty fucking stiff riders and barely use the board as intended. Very few exceptions.
