Skate Banana is a criminally underrated board.

Is it though...?

(to be fair the clips of him riding it in the back country are pretty sick...) I have a feeling this guy can just make anything look amazing.

Ps. just watched the video - is that actually the size of board he rides that he takes out of the factory? It's almost over his head?

Disagree. One of my all-time favorite boards and the only thing that has remained in my quiver for >10 years (other than the Fish).

Rocker (like in the SB) in the middle has limitations. Basically you cant apply pressure to the contact points since it curves upward. So you end up with a shortened effective edge - you only apply pressure between your bindings. Its "fun" to dick around in slow speeds and makes no difference in pow but when things are firm and speeds rise it simply can't keep up.

The statement that "Rocker in the middle has limitations" is just silly. Full camber also has limitations. So does every other camber profile.

And the rest of the post is just absolutely wrong. Rocker does nothing to the effective edge length. Rather it reduces running length or contact length when the board is flat and unweighted. The more the board is on its edge (and the more weighted it is), the more pressure goes towards the contact points.

Yes, rocker has limitations/specific characteristics (again, like everything else) but a shorter EE is most definitely not one of them.

Yeah i should have explained it better. Effective edge in the sense on how much edge you can apply pressure on (not by definition). Even if you weight it middle rocker works against the pressure you apply (bends up, you apply pressure down).

As i said for certain conditions it doesn't matter. However there are a shitload of boards that will perform much better in any situation than a Skate Banana. And that is by design. It was cool when it was new but as the novelty wore off the problems with it became apparent.

i agree with both of you. @sgboarder @89c51

the skate banana is a rad board for sure, but still does get left behind in certain terrain, e.i. hard pack. i loved mine and it was my DD for a while when i first started riding (before i found you giggledicks and became the gear whore i am now). groomers, pow, slush... rode it in everything. while i agree it is more difficult to hold an edge in a hard carve on a rockered board, it's not impossible. i certainly wouldn't have chosen it for the rat race banked slalom like he did, but to each their own. as far as EE goes, my 152 banana has a longer EE than my 158 k2 ultra split, by a lot.

it is an under rated board for sure. jack of all trades, master of none sort of thing. it can be a DD or a quiver board, but let's be real, most of us have 5+ boards whereas the average non-EL rider may only have one or two. great for them, less for us. i'll never get rid of mine, but results may vary.

tl;dr
