Oh I just like to poke fun at it, it gives the illusion, both to the viewer and the rider, that they are “getting low.” If you take away the super hunched posture, what’s left is actually a fairly mellow turn that doesn’t take much to do.

Don’t get me wrong, I totally dig the video and have watched it a couple times, but I picked up on those things instantly. I don’t recall his history, but his style very much looks to me like a park rider who started riding different shapes and got into carving. You can see him sort of losing his track on some of the toesides because he is not settled in. I’m not looking for this stuff when watching, it just stands out to me

For curiosity's sake @spenser, would you feel a similar sentiment that you had with the Lars form, with Wolken in this picture here? 😘

Haha,  I see what you’re saying, but heelside is different. If you look at the board and his front leg, he is low, but because of body dynamics, you do bend at the waist a bit. He does tend to exaggerate his style a bit, but is in fact legitimately “low” (hate how that word starts to sound after saying it a few times)

Here are a couple friends in Canada to illustrate. Posture fairly straight, the turn is allowing him to be low without hunching or reaching, and his rear hand is just grazing for sensory purposes, rather than holding him up. He is also approximately 69% more safe from rogue dildos.

Here is a properly low heelside. Bent at waist, yes, as a product of proper body mechanics

Lol, fair points and those are some awesome deep carving shots.

Personally love Wolken's style and technique of turning; prob my fave pro to watch turn and learn from 🤓. And totally agree, a rider's edging ability should ideally be the thing that brings them low/close to the ground. And not the upper body forcibly bent for the sake of calling it "euro carving". Been guilty of this in the past, but strayed away from this the last couple years. Most of my focus these days is on honing my railed turns every time I go ride.

And Lars previously rode for CAPITA doing freestyle edits for LAAX, before going to Korua. And is the youngest rider for them iirc, so I agree there also.

That makes sense then. And it’s not like he’s bad at snowboarding (duh), but you can tell where he came from, at least in my opinion.

Anyone watch Roadless yet?  It's available on streaming and wondering if it's worth a buy.

i watched Roadless last night. It's worth a buy for the $9.99 on vimeo not 19.99 on amazon. It's a more centered around Guch, brief history on each of them, short bit about each of their relationships with craig, and a bunch of them walking/moving camp deeper into the area riding as much as they can. I enjoy that kind of thing so I liked it

looking for a video.. I think it may have been an old Salomon/Bonfire or Airblaster(?) team edit at a Euro resort.  I think Chris Grenier does a 360 nose butter in it, Jed sessions a rainbow box..does this ring any bells?  I think I just spent an hour looking for it haha.

Right up my alley.  Thanks for the price breakdown.  I'll snag it from Vimeo.

the main reason I try to buy most snowboard movies on vimeo is because they let you download them and actually own it, so you're not forced to watch through itunes

I caught it with some buddies at the world premiere in SF maybe six weeks. I really enjoyed it. IMO it takes the best of Rice and Jones movies without the more annoying aspects of either. Tells a narrative, weaves the the personal stories of the 3 rides (special focus on Guch), and has some awesome riding split up with some nice meditative sections.

The snowboard filming focuses more on lines rather than super edited "greatest hits" montages since they don't have helis or snowmobiles to take repeate laps. Some of the non-snowboarding stuff is great. Travis Rice tossing all his gear on the mountain on his split was pretty funny.
