does anyone have direct experience with how the Burton Ion fit compares to the Tourist? I know @cjs was wearing the ion and the tourist x. Just curious how close the fit is between the two. I only have shops with the Ion to try on but would like to buy some Tourists. Or a comparison between Tactical ADV and Tourist would work too

Heard they are soft but comfy. 32 don't fit my feet so haven't tried them myself.

Haven't owned a Tourist, but tried them on a couple seasons ago (2018 version) and own Tacticals (owned 2018 Advs and 2020 Lexicons). Tourist 10.5 feels significantly narrower than an Adidas 10 in forefoot. Similar length wise. Not narrow per se, but definitely not as roomy as Tacticals. Tactical sz 10 fits my sz 10.5 3E / 2E feet pretty comfortably, Tourists felt like they'd need some pretty significant break-in, probably some boot fitting work to get wide enough. Tourists also felt super stiff underfoot... I remember thinking they must have put some some shank reinforcement. They felt a lot stiffer underfoot than the Imperials I owned at the time. Can't speak to Ions.

Yeah, I picked up some Tourists and have been liking them so far. Definitely slightly narrower than Adidas, especially in the toe box. Size 9 tourists are slightly narrower than 8.5 tactical adv. Length is really similar but .5 size isn't much. My tacticals have probably close to 300 days on them so they're super broken in though. Fit like a glove at this point but they're just too worn to do what's needed of them. Tourists are definitely breaking in after roughly 8 days with minor toe bruising. Really like the stiffness underfoot comparatively. They do well billy goating around rocky summits. Pretty comfy from trailhead to summit and back. I've had a few pairs of Imperials that didn't quite fit my foot properly so I'm glad these do.

I've worn Thirtytwo boots exclusively for the past 13 seasons.  I'm considering giving Vans a shot.  Anyone able to provide general impressions?  i.e., Quality of construction, overall footprint, wide vs. narrow fit...etc...

Haven't owned a pair, but tried on the Infuse a few times before deciding the fit just didn't work for me. I've tried on some other Vans over the years as well. Currently own 32 TM2 XLTs.

Vans fit feels significantly narrower and lower-volume than 32 to me, especially in toebox. 32 is much more accommodating of my duck feet. Vans felt true-to-size for me length-wise, but not sure how much pack-out to account for.

Not sure about foot print, but doubt it could be any worse than 32. Those things are bloody enormous.

the Infuse is a different beast in the Vans lineup. I swear by Hi-Standard Pro’s because they’re supportive but easy to break in. a lot of friends of mine rip the Infuse, but it was more work to break in than I wanted.

Ive got fairly wide feet, wear pretty much 10.5 across the board, 11 if it’s a narrower/slip on shoe.

construction seems pretty bomb, the soles of my last Hi-Pro’s were starting to come apart this spring, but that was after two full seasons of riding, and they had been packed out since about halfway through the season. I just always put off buying new boots for too long.

footprint feels pretty standard, maybe a hair on the bigger side?

Bought this season Acerra boots since Adidas is pulling out. They feel exactly like my Tacticals with 30+ days and some work done to them except for boa and softer? Though they would be stiff as first year Acerra. Didn't you have both pairs @parker?

@unsuspected I got a pair of energy boosts for the same reason, but are they really leaving?  They published a catalogue for the 20/21 season.

@zc1 They're producing boots next year, but word on the street is no 2022 line.

Guessing they made them softer. The 2020 Tactical Advs I got are noticeably softer than the 2018s they replaced. I ended up going with Tactical Lexicons which are a hair stiffer.

I also ended up keeping the 2020 Tactical Advs as well in case Adidas pulls out. I didn't intend to buy them and forgot to return them to Adidas, but decided to just keep them in reserve for when my Lexicons die. Hate to say it because their mega-corp customer service was goddamned atrocious, but they fit my foot MUCH better than anything else I've ever owned and I'll be sad when they're no longer available.

@psklt too late to be useful as I see you got the Tourists but yeah, so… Tourists and Ion both use the Life liner so they should pretty much feel the same on your feet.

I've been riding Tourists all season doing backcountry and freeriding and love them. The builtin j-bar ankle cushions have blown out though and I am in discussion with Burton support as to what can be done (same happened to the Ions last year).

Imperials use the Imprint3 liners which are kinda meh, and yes, narrower. There's a Japanese release "Imperial LTD" that uses Life Wide Fit liners though which are very interesting to me for next season. Assuming we have a next season.

p.s.: Burton liners that are labeled "Wide" or "Asian Fit" basically have neoprene on the sides of the toebox, making it more forgiving/expandable. The lasts used between Imprint, Life and Life + seem to be somewhat different though.

I'm looking at possibly having to buy new liners for 2 pairs of Burton boots that are otherwise still totally useable (as mentioned above, the built-in ankle j-bars blew out on two pairs of Life liners… not clear yet if I can get them replaced).

What are the options / sources for this? Intuition? (How do they fit in Burton boots?)

Any experience y'all have ?

thanks

Following.
I have an older pair of ions that could use new liners...
