I think that allows you to mount the lighter gimbal hinge and motors in one spot and the heavier batteries in another?

Also: splits the bulk into two separate pieces?

Finally: remote/moveable location of controls?

Ya it moves the battery and control from the motorized gimbal...debatable how much improvement that creates. There are stabilizers that are done completely by counterbalancing weight and moving the center of gravity, but typically used for bigger cameras and wouldn't work well in a mounted situation. Much bigger than a motorized gimbal in most cases.

Mechanism that allows for rotation along an axis. In videography the term is used in the same way as stabilizer.
