I looked around and didnt see a thread os if there is one apologies. Anyways who's got experience with Amplid? I ordered the Aloha Vibes and Kill Switch this morn. Price, specs and shapes look good so I figured I'd give it a shot. Anyone ridden either model before?

Thanks

We've recently been talking Amplid in the Dealz thread when @elektropow shared the link for their outlet sales on older models. I've only ridden the Penta 56, and for about 4 days so far. Think @Bopuc2 has ridden a few of their other ones?

All in all, build quality is top notch and that Antiphase thing is pretty legit. I have the mothership model tho; def on the more lively/energetic side but a very smooth ride. And not a "9/10 flex" as they state lol. Def 7.5 flex at most, imo (relative to all my riding specs, at least). Loving it so far.

Yeah that thread is what I sparked my interest. So I reached out for a deal since I'm in the outdoor industry and they obliged. I'm hoping they get here fast like most european boards ive bought. My only concern is if they will be stiff enough. They look sick though.

Getting on the 56 Penta soon probably.

Playmaker made stuff from them is burlier. I probably said this somewhere else, but the 159 and 162 current UNW8's didn't bend much at all, would imagine same would go for the current Pentaquark. Kill Switch looks interesting, but no idea about the stiffness of that one, didn't see one at a shop.

There's even one Jean Nerva left in wrappers at the local. Also one mothership made milligram he won't sell even for full price.

Intrigued by both of those - kill switch especially.  Look forward to hearing your thoughts.

Own/owned a 18/19 UNW8 159 and a 18/19 158 Pentaquark. Solid board construction, was really impressed by the quality. My first time riding on their Anti phase system and was there after sold. Loved both boards but had to give up the Pentaquark.l kept the UNW8, just got more use out of it then I did the penta. Ordered the boards direct from their web site then shipped to the states in a timely fashion. UPS later sent me a bill for $50. Not the biggest fan of their bases but a decent wax cures most of that. Both Stiff and loaded with a healthy amount of camber. My UNW8 feels like it can bust through walls. When I hop on my PYL afterwards it feels incredibly playful. Really would love to check out some more of the boards.

Jump on that early as shit sold out quickly.  The split scene in Europe is all over that board.

Yeah, I'll be looking to grab the largest size, too, which tends to sell out the fastest (they probably make fewer of them). I'm assuming they will top out at 168 again, but I'll have to see once they release more details.  The new low-albedo topsheets look pretty slick.

I have a 18-19 Creamer Split (same shape as Milligram) which is just a pleasure to hike and ride. It has never let me down and has held up extremely well. This one was Mothership built.

I have a Snomellier prototype, made at Playmaker. The Snomellier is the renamed limited edition Jean Nerva. Really light, 166 swallowtail pow gun, fast with a wide sidecut and well balanced flex (stiff nose, and pressing the swallowtail turns you on a dime). Holds the line when you need it, zips through trees when it has to.

There are a few dimensions along which snowboard makers can build their brands. Amplid rests on Peter Bauer's name as an old school pro rider and shaper (he was involved with Burton designs which predate the Terje/JG stuff. Supermodel ring a bell?), and an apparent dogged pursuit of shape and construction innovation.

Pretty much without a doubt my next splitboard purchase is an Amplid.

How did you find the Pentaquark? Is the width tiring or sluggish?

At slow/slower speeds was a bit of work but, to be fair, it was not designed to go slow. Incredibly stable at high speeds. Wide open cord with no one around, it would be hard to find a better board to scare yourself with. Anti phase seems legit, maybe not just placebo.

I own a older UNW8 (biax and no antiphase) as my groomer day board and I love the thing.  It's like a Custom X that's actually lively and fun and still absolutely rips carves.  I've been concerned about upgrading it to the new UNW8 because I'm worried that the increased stiffness of the triax and the increased dampening of the antiphase might kill the liveliness and pop that I love.  It's such a great traditionally shaped and cambered board.

Without having ridden either, I can you tell that the version these past couple seasons (playmaker) is a completely different beast. More a freight train, less lively. This is as obvious from handflexing as can be, and I've talked to a couple shop people and they've made it pretty clear as well. Some like the older stuff, some older heavier guys who don't leave the ground much prefer the new..

I have an inbetweener coming (motherhip with antiphase) and anxious to get on it. Gonna be channeling my imagined Longo pop through that deck, haha. Actually a couple of my friends are planning a SHE appreciation edit, might try to get some jumps in there..

boards arrived today... first impressions they feel soft hand flexing. I was hoping they would feel more like a 5 not a 7 and I'm much bigger than the suggested rider weight its gonna feel like a 4 under foot prob. I'm not sure if I will even ride them.
