anyone ever try using mfi with another kind of goggle (i.e. oakley line miner) by gluing one of these mfi carriers to the bottom? i wouldn't expect it to be a perfect fit, but maybe good enough?

unless they have the same nose shape as M4’s, I don’t see it working super well.

Thanks @coleslawed. I think I might give it a try when they get back in stock. I should be able to check the fit and keep the carrier in return-able condition. If so, nothing to lose except return shipping costs. I just really like the idea of the mfi, but not ready to break up with my oakleys

yeah i hear ya, if i could have a pair of airgoggles with MFI and a baker rose blue chrome lens, i’d never need another goggle.

But, all I really want is for Airblaster to make baker lenses again...

Me too.  But until then, Smith Squad.

Regular squad, not XL? I’ve been poking around the web seeing what looks like it might work for my preferences.. diehard airgoggler, but gotta at least try a fancy lens.

I read @matty’s comment on the last page comparing them in size, and slightly taller sounds fine, just wondering how the regular squad compares.

I actually have both.  I like the field of vision of the XL's slightly better than the regular Squad- but the regular Squad fits my face better.  There is definitely a noticeable difference in feel/fit between the two- with the squad fitting noticeably smaller.

The nose bridge of the XL sits too low on my nose, resulting in a little discomfort.

Smith's reference of "medium" for the Squad and "medium/large" for the XL is accurate.  Also, Matty's description of "taller" on the last page is on point.  For some people, this is a good thing- but (stating the obvious here) for people with smaller faces, the XL will likely not fit properly (like for me...).

"Chromapop" isn't a miracle tech.  That said, I've really enjoyed Smith's lens quality- and more than anything else, the magnitude of lens tints that are available.

I have the XL's in the "blackout" colorway that I'd send your way for an "EL" discount (I mean CHEAP....like, really cheap) if you're interested.  They'd come with the "chromapop sun black lens," "chromapop photochromatic red mirror lens," and "chromapop storm rose flash lens."  I hadn't planned on selling them, but would be glad to send them to a happy home 🙂

As alluded to above, I "like" the XL's better, but they don't fit my face as well as I'd like...so might be better to pass the XL's on...Holla if you're interested.

Let's just all spam AB until they give us a EL baker run! (And a fresh run of pterry straps!!!)

As an update to my comment from the last page, I ended up trying regular and XL Squad. Like Pac, the regular fit my face much better (specifically my nose). But it was a rushed COVID try on with a mask and the shop was oddly dark. Nevertheless the fit is different. I emailed Smith for measurements and this is what they sent me:

Squad XL 8.5" across lens' center, 5" top to bottom over the eye.

Squad 8" across lens' center, 4.5" top to bottom over the eye.

My dilemma is that I'm really after the two CP lenses that come with the XL. Although I wasn't as impressed as I thought I would be with the storm rose compared to my plebian yellow. I'm still sitting on a pair of this season's discounted XL's in my cart right now.

@PacEnDubya: I thought you got rid of those! If Spenser is out, I might be interested, but after making this comment I'm leaning non-XL.

Well that’s quite the offer, thanks man. Hmmmmm...

I just measured airgoggles to compare, and they are something like 8” across and 4” tall (frame, not lens), which would suggest the regular squad is most similar? I don’t have a small face/head, I’d say larger-leaning medium.. loved EG2s in the past, which the XL can’t be bigger than... but do I like a medium gogg. Airgoggles are... perfect. I’m sure the XL would fit my face fine, but that’s my hesitation, as well as if I took your offer only to end up not liking them..

Haha...I kinda ended up with a shit ton of Smith goggles this season.  I had a couple of pairs of XL's (sold one), Squad Mag's (sold), and regular Squads.  Yeah bud, if @Spenser passes and your interested, they're all yours (if you want them).

@Spenser: Yes, I'd definitely say the the regular Squad fits most similarly to AB.

Thanks dude, this is helpful.

Between Airgoggs and Squads?  Eeesh...tough call.  I haven't run AB goggles in about 4 or 5 years.  Going from memory though, I'd say that the Squad fit/feel and look is slightly smaller than AB.

So, these are sweet. Big thanks to @pacendubya for the hooks!

I was surprised how not-big they actually are.. they’re a large medium, but no space goggles here. On my face at least, the fit (foam footprint) feels almost identical in size to airgoggles, and they are only a little further from the face, which is sweet. Most modern goggs stick out too much. Can’t necessarily discern a difference in peripherals either, but maybe slightly taller like Matty said. On the outside, XL is only a hair wider side to side, and not much taller. Glad I didn’t end up ordering the regular squad, as these are perfect. Feels good on my face, and I like the slightly more open nose fit; they sit well.

Storm rose flash (?) is very similar to rose blue chrome (light rose w/ blue sheen outside).

Assuming they work on-slope for me, definitely one of my favorite looks & fits after the almighty airgoggle. Heeler approved.

The measurements given to dandan are off, but that’s a good thing - actual lens is 8” across and just shy of 4” tall, vs 8.5 & 5
