@payaso

Thanks for your info!

I’m pretty close to you specs wise, the Dart could be the go..

Sounds like @spenser needs to get on a Pencil though.

Too kind, @GD. Honestly, I haven’t seen footage of myself riding in over a decade. Style’s probably whack.

kinda sad that I haven’t gotten out on my Café yet this season. kinda waiting for a beautiful corduroy day to bust it out, but most of my riding this season has been end of the day skidded turn leftovers so far.

LOL ... 🤔

Nah, rippin' style and trench-laying all day ... how anyone will be able to catch you while you're on the Pencil, is beyond me haha.

anyone ridden the apollo?  never tried an asym board yet, but the specs on the apollo seem to be a better fit for me than most of the Korua line...

Had the first year Apollo, it wasn’t a true asym board then - just one edge of the tail was longer l o l.  It also ollied a little weird, but that’s probably my fault. I didn’t care too much for it and preferred the Puzzle over it.

Have a question for those of you who own the Pencil.

Currently riding an OG Squash 53 as my daily which seemed like a lot of board when I started riding it. Nowadays I find myself wishing I had the OG 59 though and since I cannot find one I was looking at the Pencil. 59 should be ideal for me, but that size is sold out. Plus it has like 10 mil less taper and a whole cm less WW, so not quite sure how much of a different ride that is.

Anyways, if you have some perspective on how the Pencil handles in general, that would be very much welcome. I am only ~140 lbs, but it would be my deep pow/carving board so I tend to think that I would be fine on the 64.

Totally not being helpful, but wanted to say it seems like a huge jump from feeling like a squash 53 is a lot of board, and next considering a pencil 64, hah. But, maybe it’s like my squash 59 to hammerhead 71. Very different, both great.

If you get the pencil 64, once you get used to it, your squash will feel like a little toy.

The pencil is the one that is most attractive to me, and I was just looking the other day. Interesting jump from the 59 to 64, like you said. I would think the 59 would be plenty for you, based on what you are looking for relative to your squash 53. I would rather have the 64 length, but 59 width, personally.

Koruas are stiff. With a shitload of camber. At 140lbs, I wouldn’t jump to the 64, it would be too much in my opinion. I weigh 165-170 and though not too stiff or too much board, they are stiff, honestly, I would consider the Tranny Finder 57. with it being almost 2cm wider than the Squash and having rocker in the nose it’s got a lot more float than the Squash, so you don’t need to worry about that. Really at your weight I’d try to demo one somehow so you can see what I’m taking about, they are stiff and have a shit load of camber, more of both than the Squash.

Regarding the Pencil, get one. I’m on the 164 and it’s been my daily.

Got a Trenchdigger incoming... we’ll see how it goes.

Well I find myself wishing the Squash was longer, so there is that.

I guess you all are right and I probably knew that myself. Just wanted to make it work since the 59 is probably not going to be available before Fall.

[...] honestly, I would consider the Tranny Finder 57.

Just checked the stats of the Tranny & Pencil, to see whether the Pencil 59 is perhaps using the Tranny 57 mold (iirc they only have a couple molds and can change tip/tail shapes). Turns out the Tranny 57 has same EE, waist, sidecut radius & taper as the Pencil 64. Running length just 1 mil difference.

Now this has me thinking again...I guess I will give the Korua guys a call next week and see what they think. Still the smaller sizes would probably be more comfortable.

@pow Do you notice the difference of 7.6 sidecut on the Tranny 54 vs 8.2 on the 57?

Going to pull the trigger on a tranny+.  Did you get a deal somewhere on your Koruas?  Looks like I may have to pay retail 🙁
