The ones that I grabbed from shops were hooked up with a small discount. The others were acquired through trade.

Regarding the Pencil, get one. I’m on the 164 and it’s been my daily.

Got a Trenchdigger incoming... we’ll see how it goes.

Going to pull the trigger on a tranny+.  Did you get a deal somewhere on your Koruas?  Looks like I may have to pay retail 🙁

@smittyspartan What's your local? It's kinda weird, but if you buy directly from Korua, it's less than retail. They deduct the VAT, and with the USD to EUR conversion, then plus shipping, its still cheaper than retail here in the US...

Totally not being helpful, but wanted to say it seems like a huge jump from feeling like a squash 53 is a lot of board, and next considering a pencil 64, hah. But, maybe it’s like my squash 59 to hammerhead 71. Very different, both great.

Well I find myself wishing the Squash was longer, so there is that.

I guess you all are right and I probably knew that myself. Just wanted to make it work since the 59 is probably not going to be available before Fall.

[...] honestly, I would consider the Tranny Finder 57.

Just checked the stats of the Tranny & Pencil, to see whether the Pencil 59 is perhaps using the Tranny 57 mold (iirc they only have a couple molds and can change tip/tail shapes). Turns out the Tranny 57 has same EE, waist, sidecut radius & taper as the Pencil 64. Running length just 1 mil difference.

Now this has me thinking again...I guess I will give the Korua guys a call next week and see what they think. Still the smaller sizes would probably be more comfortable.

@pow Do you notice the difference of 7.6 sidecut on the Tranny 54 vs 8.2 on the 57?

@picasso yea, I notice the difference, the 57 definitely likes to run more for sure, while the 54 is more at ease with shorter, tight turns and tight trees. Honestly been riding the 54 Tranny and Otto 57 90% of the time this year at resorts. For me the 54 has been a better fit for Snowbasin where I've been riding, but as soon as the crowds start clearing out next month at Snowbird and I start riding there more I'll be I'll be spending more time on the 57 and Stealth 63.

I think this’ll stoke a handful of homies following this thread. Looks like the Otto is getting the Plus treatment next season...

Damn!  Otto was the biggest surprise of the Korua line up for me.

Would love to see a Split 54 Tranny & Split 59 Pencil...

Having tried a bunch of their shapes, I’d be all over a full-cambered Pencil with the Plus base in a 162.
Doesn’t exist and probably never will, but it doesn’t hurt to dream.

Finally got the Dart in some fresh, it's a spectacular board and it'll definitely be in my bag for every road trip going forward.  Have said that, it's also an exceptional carver and I'll be looking to pick up a Pencil next season for sure.  You all need to get on one of these.

Which Dart size did you get and your stats?

It's a 156 and I'm 5'10'' 185.  It's plenty of board for me, as others have said these Koruas have their own feel.  It's just different than any Burton, Capita, Jones or Mervin I've been on.  It's not a plank but it is pretty stout.  I think someone would have to weigh a lot more than me to overpower it, for me the Dart is a no-speed-limit board, even a little 56.  The most obvious riding trait is stability, it's turn characteristics are very neutral.  It does exactly what you want, when you want, balls-out straight-line or ripping tight turns.

This is EL blasphemy and in no way a shot at the Fish (which I love) but a Fish feels like a toy compared to the Dart.

I know what you mean, experienced a similar thing when I owned the Stealth and a CX before. After riding both back to back, the CX felt so much more playful/toy-like in comparison lol.

Makes sense. Same thing I am feeling when I switch from the hammerhead 71 back to squash or anything else. Usually takes me a couple runs to readjust to the “settings” for those regular boards, and then everything is good again, but at first it’s amazing how little they feel. Toys!

We talked about this in the fullbag thread, but “difficulty” of a board is extremely relative. Someone who is not skilled enough will find a Korua to be difficult, but for someone who is skilled, that stronger, larger board can actually be easier to ride, because you have the skills to handle it, and then its strength does a lot of the work for you. I feel like I can just stand on my hammerhead and put very little into it, and get a ton out of it. Simply not true with anything else I own, despite how much I love my other boards.

Dropping in on another Korua.  Killdozer is RAD.  Bigger size Stealth, doesn't ride like a 171.  The added length is all in the tail on the Killdozer.

Next board will 99% be a Cafe' Racer 164.  0.9% Trench digger, 0.1% Dart 160 (really not dart as I have so many fish)

Want something for LBS if I get in next year.  Only thing is the mega width on the CR 164, but I think I will dislike the 159 (I am over trying to ride a shorter board at 250 lbs.)

TD is prob. ok wide with my SLX 11s, but kinda not sure about the 10m side cut.

Ready go.

@passinggas

Maybe Tranny Finder +

It's only got 3 cm less effective edge than the Cafe Racer 164, but with the same weight rating, actually the low end is 5kg more.

It might be what you're looking for and it will give you something more nimble for the trees..

Word.  I would love to try a TF.  My buddy has the TF + but I won't see him Until April  at the earliest.

I have alternated days on my Koruas with Fish 160 and PiranhaX 161.5 and they still have a place in my quiver for now.

I am more interested in a CR (or maybe TD) for the full camber.  I have a bit too many poder boards ATM.  It's AMAZING for the season I am spending in the Tetons, but it's back to Cascade concrete and freeze thaw cycles next year.

I am getting older and stuck in my ways lol.  Every time I ride a board less than 160cm, I feel like I can't ride it to my comfortable max speed.  I would definitely love to try a TF, but feel like with the surf camber or whatever Korua calls it, it will feel more like boards I already have, and not be long enough.

I downsized from a 165, to the TF 57, and the TF 57 feels like a lot more board, edge wise, and I feel way more confident on it railing turns on groomers than I did my 165. I understand what you're saying, and not disagreeing, but the stiffness and camber on Koruas make them ride different than some other 57... The rocker in the nose, is really not much, there is so little in fact that I was worried about pow performance when I first got it, but it's been tits in pow for me.
