What about it feels “smoother” in your experience, and/or what do you mean by that? I’d say total opposite for me, with any use of the word

The NOW skate tech (Jones Merc, to be specific) felt a bit more abrupt(?) for me when going edge to edge. Whereas with my Cartel X, though not as responsive as the former, feels less abrupt transitioning edge to edge, if that makes any sense? I didn't grow up skating and not used to that feel, which may be playing a role here, maybe? I dunno, that's the best I can explain it, at least 🤷🏻‍♂️.

In any case, I def see the strengths in the NOW tech, esp in the response department. Just prefer the feel of B binders still, and willing to give up a touch more response for them.

Or I could just be more used to the comfy feel of B bindings? Likely the factor more at play here, if anything.

Lol true. Was actually going to ask how you found the new ankle straps on the Drives. Guess not comfy enough, from looks of it? 😅

Not trying to sound like I’m shitting on them, but I strapped into the stock ankle straps and immediately proceeded to never try them on snow. Toe straps were an obvious no-go. Had been running hammock ankles and my trusty flat union toes from 2014, so that’s what I swapped in, but at some point last season I switched back to my 2011 flux ankles, and I still like them better. Wide & flatter, there’s just something about the comfort and way they cradle around my ankles.

Back on korua, can anyone with any model (typical 269 waist w/ 31mm taper) measure the width at the back foot for me? Middle of inserts is fine.

This describes my experience with NOWs exactly.  I bought a pair of Drives last season and rode them for one day.  The feeling to me was that during edge changes there was an almost imperceptible lag, followed by an immediate response to the new edge.  GD's word "abrupt" describes this feeling perfectly (to me).  I've been in Burtons forever and Union for the last 7-8 years, so for me, making edge changes with a "conventional" binding feels more like a predictable progression in terms of the edge angle, that I can precisely control at any time during the transition.

Having said all that, I totally get all the EL love for NOWs, one thing that was immediately evident is that they put immense power to your edges, unlike any other binding.  In fact when I went back to my standard bindings the same day I was like "Where did all my edge control go?"  I don't have any doubt that I could have gotten used to that slightly weird edge-change response and ended up addicted to that focused power to the edge, but I have a lot of different Union bindings (franken-bindered Stratas, Ultras and Atlas) that have have been really excellent for different boards, especially in terms of board feel underfoot, so I didn't want to make a wholesale change to the fleet, not to mention spending a ton of  money to change out everything.

Plus NOW straps truly blow, so I'd have had to make mods too.

I'd consider giving them another try, but I'm really happy with the Unions, so I doubt that'll happen.

Back to Korua, something I think we'll all probably more likely agree on...

Good to know, thanks. Almost identical to my orbit 57, which makes sense given its slightly narrower waist with less taper. I seem to notice the rear foot width most, which is why I asked.

I guess while we’re at it, how about the front foot?

Normally I’d not be into something like this, but actually think the noserider looks like a super fun little powder surfing tray of a snow-skateboard. Something that forces you to slow down a bit and get a little silly, enjoy it for what it is. The obelix didn’t really strike me this way, even though they have some similarities.

I kinda want one

The vid/song choice was dope.

Crazy how narrow his stance has gotten nowadays. I'm at ~20.5-20.75 inches for mine, which is on the narrower side already. But can't imagine riding any narrower, changes the feel so much for me. Makes it feel too restricted. Then again, he has mentioned somewhere that he's been trying diff stances, angles etc. For diff feels while riding, along those lines iirc 🤷🏻‍♂️.

If I hadn't overdone it last year there'd be an Escalator, Pin Tonic and Noserider in a wheelie locker board bag behind me right now. (Flying in 4 days so too late to order and well wife eh…)
