Hit up Timberline at Mt Hood this past Saturday for a few hours. I have two buddies whose 11- and 12-year-old sons were headed to High Cascade/Windell's (one to snowboard camp and the other to skateboard camp), so we went down a day early on Friday, got a rental cabin in govy, and rode on Saturday before dropping the boys off at camp that afternoon. Conditions were good, and very few people were there beyond the ski race camp kids. Apparently the Windell's/High Cascade weekly sessions go Saturday to Saturday, so there isn't any on-snow activity that day.

Blah blah blah. TL;DR version: got lift-accessed turns in July and snowboarding is still fun.

First significant snow seems like a good time to bump this thread...

Just outside of PC.

Some lines from the other sidde of the valley. Temporarily looks so good. Shame it won't stick. Early slightly bigger than normal dumps are the worst.

6 days so far this season. Basically just getting legs and lungs back and cruising the handful of open groomers waiting for snow. Forecast calls for 2-3 feet here in colorado starting today through sunday. My cardio is shit from not doing much hiking the last few months

Dr. gave me clearance for future failure so I fukked off for a couple days and drove north to find white crystal snos candy.

Got 2 days down. Had a few inches fo fresh the first day and gaver all day till my sexy legs literally cramped and I couldn't continue and I was forced to the local super market for pecan rolls. Lack of proper exercise in all capacity the last few months due to injury was apparent.

Thing of note: I saw an Orca in the wild. Riding its back was someone with a straight front leg, ruddering with the back foot down the groomers. I'm not sure it was their first day riding but I'm not not sure either. I hope I see that board on craigslist in a year or two.

Also, a bit chuffed as did my first proper winter car camping. Single digit lows both nights. Twas not much of an issue likely due to proper thinking it through, and I'm looking forward to doing more.

The only Orcas I have so far seen on snow have exclusively been ridden on groomers by beginnermediates. I am sure that it's a rad board, but it is uniquely attractive to those least equipped to ride it. I especially appreciate that a couple of the Orcas I have seen have been paired with Falcor bindings and then a ridiculously soft, entry-level boot like the Burton Moto.

I just saw a genlty used 159 Orca listed for sale here in WA on FB for $575. The dude selling it is apparently a 40 year-old MMA enthusiast, because of course he is...

I love the specs on the Orca and I want to ride it, but I know I'd have a certain embarrassment about it due to the hype train. It's the only board I've ever thought I'd do the spenser vinyl wrap on if I got one.

It seems Travis attaches his name to things that I like and work good (likely b/c he's stupid legit), but I'm uneasy about looking like I'm a fanboy being all decked in Rice. I respect, but that's where it stops.
