Day 3. Met up with Sam & young gun Evan and filmed a few shots on a little wedge. Feels good to be back in the snow. Legs are tired and my riding felt like it sucked today, haha

Spenser that looks so fun. I was hoping we'd see you do something gnarly off it.

Day one touring up the cone at mt bachelor on my drifts with karakorams and riding the asmo powsurf down. There were a shit ton of others with the same idea as you can see me pass in the video. Its nothing special it got warm so the snow got heavy mashed potato sunday so no face shots. I heard sat was better but oh well it was great being on snow again. The asmo is so fun perfect for the low angle.  I'm off to a much better start than last year I think my first day was in feb.

Yeah, that jump looks super fun. Would've def been down to session that, too @spenser.

We prob won't get to ride for another 2-3 weeks here, at least. Just getting over a crazy warm spell w/ double digit weather in Nov ... on top of rapidly rising phase 2 Covid cases/positivity rates 😰.

Nice. Seen the footy of the Ferg bros, Austin Smith, Jared Elston & co riding there, too. Looking fun already.

Ha! Me hitting any jump is a stretch. If I were feeling ballsy the best I’ve got is a tailgrab poke back 1, if I don’t miss the grab.

Got days 1-4 in at Mammoth and Squaw Monday through Turkey Day. I cancelled plans to visit my parents due to COVID concerns. Wife and I had already requested the time off, so we grabbed some AirBnbs and socially distanced in Mammoth and Tahoe. I don't normally ride this early in the year give it's 3.5 hours to Tahoe and 7 to Mammoth, but I was jonesing after last season's premature shutdown, a few early storms set an unusually decent base for this time of year, and who knows how many opportunities I'll get for lift-serviced turns this season.

Racked up about 25k vert over those 4 days. Mid-season I can surpass that in a day, but offseason legs and sea level lungs made themselves known. Shook the rust off though.

Mammoth was fantastic. Firm and windy a couple days, but great times. Put the Wingswallow 149 and United Shapes Orbit through their paces. Talked about the Orbit in the United Shapes Thread, but that board is sick. I'm not quite sure if it's the daily driver I hoped (that tail is STIFF) but it's a keeper. Sets an edge and just rails.

Squaw was ok. They're about 1000 ft lower generally, and only the lower mountain stuff was open... the last 500 ft of vert or so would get pretty sketchy, especially in the shade. The chair with best conditions in the morning (Squaw Creek) funnels in one lift, so it got pretty crowded by 11... we bailed after a couple hours.

Mammoth was fucking FANTASTIC about COVID. They set up line ropes in a way that made distancing easy in every direction, and had staff VERY stringently enforcing mask usage. Even exposed nose was immediately jumped on. They were directing traffic in the lift lines at every step of the way. Staff and management obviously gave a damn. Provided a lot of peace of mind.

Squaw was... not great. The guests were generally good, but the lines were essentially set up as normal with the staff clearly going through the mornings. It was basically business as usual, with the guests policing themselves. I actually saw one staff member "enforcing" compliance with his nose exposed, which told me about how seriously that guy was taking his job. It was bad enough that my wife and I are talking about maybe skipping Tahoe this year and sticking to longer trips to Mammoth. I'll give them one more shot and check out Alpine Meadows once more terrain's open.

Also posted this on DMQ a couple days ago and inadvertently set off an anti-mask / Qanon shitstorm. It was amazing and depressing. Wish I'd gotten some screenshots, but the mods cleaned it up before I got to my computer. Just a thought that you get offended by non-specific use of the term "mouthbreather", then you're a fucking mouthbreather.

(Any non-Qanon/anti-masker EZloungers are welcome to add me on Facebook).

Yesterday with Sam on Troy, a mountain adjacent to Eaglecrest. Snow was great! Much better than expected based on what I’d heard the couple days prior. I still have to remind myself it’s not even December.

Day 4 first day on the lifts. Took the US orbit 57 paired with acerra boots and Karakoram connect CI bindings out for the first time it is quite the board it didn't seem too stiff as others had said (hand flexing my drink water fusion, the fusion is for sure stiffer) but I'm also 220lbs and the bindings I was using are pretty fucking stiff. I think next time I ride it I'm gonna slap on the laybacks to see if the board feels more over powering. Either way it was a blast and it fuckin rails turns for sure cant wait to get on it again. Does anyone know if they stiffened it up over the years mine is the 2017 late release so it may have been softer and I bought it from Ben Birk who is a ripper so its probably been broken in but it looks to be in close to new condition it doesnt look like he rode it much so I dont know. I'd be curious to try a newer one for sure.

Also did this the day before ont the cadet but don't really count it as a day.

Had the '18/19 Orbit 57 (same one as Spenser & Kimchi) and the '19/20 in the 54. Not sure if it was a one off, but the 19/20 felt stiffer/beefier in the build. Was surprised cos I would've thought that that going down a size would make it progressively softer. But it didnt; felt more Korua-esque in feel than the model the year before. But like you mentioned, your setup sounds much stiffer than mine, plus the ~55lbs on me so will likely feel a little diff for you.

Actually got to ride my old 57 again on Day 2. Reminded me how much I enjoyed ripping on it. May have to grab one again sooner, than later 😅.

It's been a crazy week here in Japan. Some record snow fall in many places. I just got back from 6 days in Hakuba and it was nuts. When I rolled into town last Sunday it was dirt brown. There was a bit of snow at the higher elevations and only Tsugaike was running one lift with one run at the top. Had to download via the gondola. By the time I left yesterday the entire valley was pretty much open top to bottom. I'm not quite sure how much snow actually fell last week, but it was probably in the 5-6 feet range. Happo was claiming a top base of 27cm last Sunday. Now it's 191cm. I had some of the best pow days at Happo since getting here and the absolute kicker is there are no foreign tourists. Hopefully the season continues like this.

Hell yeah ^

Opening day here. Wet, but mostly snowing. Some good turns, but got worked doing so. Enough coverage-recovery after our recent triple tropical storm + hurricane to safely ride to the bottom. Time for cold shower lactic release.

Awesome stuff, dude. Slightly bumming, though, esp with how our first Hokkaido trip turned out last winter. The worst/driest winter there in a long while, according to a few locals we talked to 😔.

Yeah, last year was absolutely horrible. Hokkaido had it better than most, but still very low tide.

Day 5 friday. Hiked the cone to pow surf down but the snow was heavy, fast and wind affected not ideal asmo conditions. I pretty much fell the whole way down i'm sure from below I looked like a kook but still a fun morning before the lifts started spinning and a good skin up with the drifts. Once the lifts started spinning I rode the cadet and fusion meh conditions were had all day (being in utah for 4yrs spoiled me) also the insane heel pain from my boots spine didn't help. The pain happened every toeside turn from first run to my last run. But man I'm loving bachelor some really fun shit and such a variety of terrain I found really fun natural features off out back and even a small pillow line. Then today we took the kiddos on the magic carpet for a couple hours. Solid weekend. Won't be able to ride for at least 1.5 weeks as I'm heading to the oregon coast for christmas hopefully that base keeps building rain is instore for tomorrow.
