I think you missed his blatant racism, if someone’s optimism involves that, I don’t think anyone’s community or the world needs that.

Hi Ben,

Looking at your profile and activity here on EZ I notice a few striking things.

You've only ever posted in this particular thread.

You've returned to it 3 times, and each time rekindling a pointless debate.

You also use a very precise type of engagement which is to present yourself as a humble member ("I love this place!" - registered December 25th, 2019), engaging in "open honest rational debate" ("Fully agree.  The people/market dictates what is allowed to continue.  We cant get all bent outta shape cause there are things that go against our beliefs/feelings."), always starting with some form of "I hear ya, but…"

This is a known form of engagement for early stage radicalisation of community members. By *seeming* reasonable, agenda free, you draw to your side/cause those members of the community, usually lurkers, who either feel like you are making sense (you are not, just so we're clear), or dislike how the community reacts to the toxic garbage you try to dump at its feet (repeatedly).

The particular topic you are pushing on here is meaningless, what matters is that it contains the seeds of the kind of shit your kind tries to plant in people's heads, i.e. reactionary  brainwash mind control which leads to acceptance of conservative/rightist views, racism/white supremacy, hatred, exploitation, oppression, conspiracy theories etc.

If this were someone's hang-out room, how do you think you'd have been dealt with by now? Normally you would have been ridiculed mercilessly, giving you a chance to save face and walk away from the shit you are peddling. Had you done that you may have had a chance to be accepted. But at the point you are now, I think there's at least a few of us who would have picked you up and thrown you out. And if you insisted to try to come back, things would've gotten ugly.

@highme I think it is high time this community make a statement about its values and a code of conduct, what is considered unacceptable, and an active banning/blocking policy. These things are fair, democratic and necessary. The old bullshit "snowboarding is fun man it doesn't matter what you believe!" has no place in the world anymore (if it ever did).

What @bopuc said. Not sure why people are engaging this schmuck like he’s actually arguing in good faith. Best case scenario he’s some bored shit-stirrer. Worst case he actually has some underlying agenda.

I cant say for sure, but Im pretty sure Ive been on EL for much longer than you, ever since the BMB went down.  Dont forget there was a big reset where many accounts were locked out and changed, and there were issues logging in and getting new passwords.  I dont remember when, but your 2019 (or 2018) seems about right.  I apologize for not posting frothing emojis for new gear, but trust me, this is where I "lurk" for new gear and honest opinions about gear from those that are 100% committed to it.  I have seen your posts and love your passion for playing snowboards.  I believe thats why we are all here.

I cant and wont try to change the way you think, cause we both know thats pointless ranting.  I applaud you for your attempted psychological profile of me, and apparent profile of the EL community and recognition of "early stage radicalization", which is pretty impressive due to the low number of active participants on a message board (no offense EL). But to keep it short and simple, youre completely thinking too much into this.

Im not here to "rekindle debates" and have only responded to posts on this thread once they popped up on the recent replies sidebar.  I was completely fine with letting this thread die out and not once have I rehashed this thread.  Im not pushing "an agenda" besides getting more information and wondering why people here are demonizing Nico for his conspiracy theory views.  I was completely unaware that Nico even had an IG until this thread, and only recently starting following it just to see what you guys were talking about.  And yes to @NMB, maybe I didnt see his posts and his blatant racism, I only saw a few lines here about some Soros comments he made.  His story posts/links are definitely more intense than his profile, but when things pop up that Ive seen, it seems more in the "Conspiracy Theory" realm.

"I hear ya" is a form of acknowledgment to the speaker to let them know that they have been heard.  Without this acknowledgement, nothing is left but the monotony of constant debate with shouting strictly for the sake of shouting, which is only amplified by the text/internet of communication.

Your "hang out room" comment is a complete joke of a statement.  I fully agree with you about some a-hole coming into your "hang out room" causing a scene and needing to throw them out.  However, having someone say a few words that dont substantiate your small bubble of acceptable reality, I honestly feel sorry for you if thats the way you think and act as a person.  I was brought up to value someones voice and thoughts on any topic.  Its up to me, or you, to take that info and decide whether to accept it or not as new knowledge.  Sometimes its total bs, sometimes its something we (dont)agree with, or sometimes its something that completely opens up our minds to new ideas.

Im all for banning/blocking overall negativity (Doc). As you said, the simple truth that unites us all is "snowboarding is fun man it doesnt matter what you believe!"  I agree with this 100%.  Playing snowboards is not an exclusive club, it accepts people from all colors, beliefs and class.

^ I do too.

Anyway, unless I am reading wrong, you misinterpreted the last part of his post. He was saying that the sentiment “snowboarding is fun, doesn’t matter what you believe” is not a valid excuse to get away with saying/believing/doing whatever you want, just because we are all “bros” that ultimately enjoy the same thing. That’s something you say when people have gear or riding-style preferences that differ from your own. Certainly doesn’t fly when it comes to the topic at hand. Do you/would you let it fly if a friend expressed racist rhetoric, whether regularly or even just once? Rhetorical, but the answer is you shouldn’t; people need to be actively held accountable for these things, whether a friend, family member, respected icon in their field, etc

I do recognize from past postings that you don’t actively follow him on social media, and I normally don’t either, but he doesn't get a pass on the ridiculous bullshit just because he snowboards particularly well. In addition to a portion of the general internet population, a few real life friends of mine have seemed confused as to why people are reacting so negatively toward him recently... they haven’t seen the content in question. If you only lightly follow and all the sudden you see that his sponsors dropped him because (you heard) he “shared his opinion,” sure, it might not seem reasonable, and one might be inclined to go off on a rant about “cancel culture” or something. But, there are good reasons for the reaction, and he continues to advance along the same plane, as exampled yet again by the recent psycho-babble (his following comments are right up there too)

Of course, no one is obligated to pay attention to any certain thing, but personal unawareness of a situation does not negate its reality. So again, why aren’t people seeing positivity from his posts? The answer is “because of his posts.”

Very well said Spenser.  I think that sums up what everyone was saying and provides some background for those like myself, that werent aware of Nicos recent sponsor drama.

My posts were truly out of curiosity and to try to understand peoples perspectives.  Im not here to argue with anyone or stir the pot.  I agree that its the responsibility of all of us, whether on the hill or not, to not tolerate racist/sexist/... behaviors.

I've previously posted about my beliefs surrounding the polarization of discourse and ideological extremism on all sides being fueled by outside interests using social media and memes as propaganda to destabilize our country (USA).

And if anyone has seen the Netflix docu The Social Dilemma, that just came out, it quite plainly lays out that facebook has already been used to topple a foreign government and install an authoritarian regime, and other similar things in broad scale politically, not to mention individually fucking us up.

But here's a conversation that just came out which goes more directly in depth about China and their direct efforts to stir up chaos and and disrupt democracies around the globe.

I highly recommend everyone give it at least 15 minutes (imo there's a kind of bombshell around the 10 minute mark), though the whole thing is a great listen with a huge amount of great insight.

Towards the end of the discussion is a part about how our openness as a democracy is being used against us, and the fear is that ...IF WE CAN'T FIND A WAY TO COLLECTIVELY COME TOGETHER AND DEAL WITH THE SOCIAL WARFARE FROM OTHER HOSTILE GOVERNMENTS AND UNITE, OUR GOVERNMENT WILL LIKELY RESPOND BY BECOMING MORE AUTHORITARIAN TO DEAL WITH THE PROBLEM.

Media sites of political propaganda is sewing fear, hatred, and intolerance, and I think the answer is to start to change the discussion to awareness that this is what is happening for everyone in an effort to crumble our democracy from the inside out. It's NOT just "the other side".

honestly one of the stupidest fucking things i've ever seen. I used to think the dude was really well grounded and down to earth, by and large my favorite snowboarder and a huge inspiration... sad to see him go down the drain so rapidly

Lets open up the conversation to start fostering the ability to see how our own ideology is being used to fan the flames for fear, hatred, and intolerance for "the opposition" because any time we engage in social or political discourse that is anything other than unifying, we're at risk of being stealthily manipulated into our own downfall and destruction.

Everyone is being made to believe that they're saving our country from the opposition and they're ready to die for it, meanwhile, the opposition is being manufactured by political propaganda with the intent to do exactly that.
