You guys working at resorts, what are you hearing from management? Is there going to be a season?

No worky there, but Juneau is pretty mellow with a natural isolation (you can’t drive here, etc) so I’m pretty sure we will have chairlifts, and extremely limited services beyond that. All I do is ride the chair anyway..

The Bird is planning to open. It will be different, but I'm told we are opening.

I know peeps at Brighton and it's the same there, although, Brighton did get aggressive ( thankfully ) and stopped season pass sales at the beginning of July to limit numbers this year.

I'll have 3 passes, Bird ( employee ) Brighton ( weekday ) and Snowbasin ( full ) so hopefully my bases will be covered...

There is always the split to make sure I get turns and this is SLC, so plenty of splitting just 20 mins from my door.

I could see myself riding Brighton more than I'd like to this year, just due to the fact of the limited numbers and all the chairs are open air and quads.

Don't know how excited I'd be right now to get on the Tram @ Snowbird or a Gondola @ Snowbasin, but, we'll see what happens.

Cannon mountain offered up some guidance, some lowlights

- We WILL be selling day passes (tickets) and purchasing said tickets may move to an online-only system;
- Snowmaking, grooming, and lift operations may be revised to reflect reduced capacities and revenue projections;
- The operation of the Aerial Tramway is certainly a question mark at this time, and there's no telling whether (or when) its operation will be approved relative to social distancing measures and both State of NH and CDC guidelines

Loss of the tram is going to hurt limit cannon, as some of the lower trails end over there and its a shitty walk back if its not running.

Vail just announced their policies for the upcoming season. It's not awesome.

the reservation thing was about what i expected.  the lift/gondola part is interesting.  i wonder how it will balance out in terms of lift line times

to save some time here's the lift part

  • Face coverings will be required to access the mountain, including in lift lines and while loading, unloading and riding on chairlifts and gondolas.
  • To maintain physical distancing on our chairlifts and gondolas, we will only be seating related parties (guests skiing and riding together), or:
    • Two singles seated on opposite sides of a four-person lift.
    • Two singles or two doubles on opposite sides of a six-person lift.
    • Two singles on opposite ends of our larger gondola cabins.

Resorts are terrified of being shut down involuntarily and are willing to do just about anything to prevent that, and then how to deal staffing at resorts that typically stack foreigners into tiny spaces which is going to be hella down.

How do you entice people to buy passes when they're going to get longer lines, less riding, and maybe zero apres?

Looks like try to make people think they'll get better quality runs with less people on the hill?

I can't say if this is their thought process. I'm just speculating.

This summer the giant water parks around here opened for peak demand months and then as soon as attendance started dropping one "closed because 2 staff members got covid". I think they all closed, I just didn't hear all the excuses. But...Which, come on, that's some bullshit line. They knew it was inevitable staff would get sick when they opened the doors, grabbed as much money as they could, and closed as soon as staying open costed more than closing with a line about "caring about employees".

I hate to be cynical but expect these resorts might be the same. Capture as much revenue as possible and shut down early. I expect that's why season pass refund policy has been written so unfavorably to consumers.

I'm glad I have a split and a powsurfer.

But... we'll see.

I'm good with the people not showing up that only go for this.

Brightons policy is 150 operating days... So, I'd say that's pretty favorable to pass holders.

Snowbasins policy is based on the timeline of the season and the amount of days you've gone.

After 7-8 days you still get 20% back. So you will have broke even on a daily ticket prices and get paid.. Pretty fair in my estimation.

Sure. It was a generalization based upon what I understand about recent changes that have been made at some places due to covid which seems have some people upset. But, yeah. Maybe it's more the exception than the rule?
