So given that digital has been taking over, fewer hard prints coming by, thought I'd share this to add to my existing library as the kickstarter campaign ends in 20 days and this is another limited run.

Heroes

Some others that I've picked up have been

  • Rice's 4th Phase book
  • Whitelines Issue 121
  • Jeff Curtes' Chasing Epic

I missed out on Current State which I'm pretty bummed about when getting into snowboard print as there seems to be a ton of good stuff in there.  Just seeing what's out there in your library or subscription and what's worth picking up if it's still available.

I’ve also got a couple more zines, 1%er 1 & 2 from Oli Gagnon, 1817 movie zine, Impaler Vol 1 zine, and Holden’s GEX.

The Methog Mag history book was pretty good. Hold Fast, Tweak Hard

You can get some back issues of Backside shipped direct from their site.

The Burton Blower book from 2002 is still available on and off on Amazon. I bought a back up copy a couple years ago but it looks like supplies are dwindling now.

Snow Beach is a really great photo book of 80s-90s snowboard style. Might be able to find a used one online somewhere, its become kind of collectible now.

Both issues of Curator are worth the price. You can still pick up the second issue of Torment too.

I have about 5 years worth of Onboard (it was THE European snowboard mag).

I went on their website the other day (they went digital-only a few years ago) and it's defunct. Last update is 2018, and there's no 'farewell' post of any kind, it just stopped.

Print->Digitial->Dead.  Generally the path of many publications.  It wasn't until I was listening to the Looking Sideways podcast with interviewees (Benedek) that the culture and how we consume it has changed so dramatically.  It's one thing putting a book together w/ just your photos, but getting enough material together that consists of culture, interviews, trends and topics is tough in this day and age.  Given that Jerome has put material together for few movies that has me super interested in his Heroes book.

I'd be really interested if Blotto or Serfaus did some sort of print project.  They're probably sitting on a gold mine of great shots that they could combine it into something.

I'm hopeful that we'll see a comeback of some sort. Go to Barnes and Noble and look at the magazine sections for flyfishing or standup paddleboarding. Someone is still spending money testing the waters of print.

I had subs to several. Towards the end I wasn't even sad to see them go. It was just a once a month picture book with ads, there was very little readable copy, and there wasn't much relatable. Most of the humor had been stripped as so not to offend the few advertisers left and there wasn't any real personality to the publications.

Maybe things have changed and I'm missing out on something. Idk. I'd love something that had something of depth to read, that didn't come off as some 'all encompassing finding the meaning of life in snowboarding' sort of way.

I'm hoping there's a DIY resurgence with the titsup economics and we see things with their own voice and authenticity to it. Maybe. idk.

Glad I stopped back in early enough to still get in on that book. Jerome's work is great and that's something I'd be mad about missing.

before lock down I found copies of the coffee table books that went with Insight & another TWSnow movie from around 2015.
