He was a former UAC intern. I hate to say, and can’t say definitively, but I’m gonna say it was the individuals over confidence in their snowpack/stability assessment ( hubris) that led to this death. I’ve ridden Taylor Mountain. It’s no fucking joke, it’s huge, with like 3000+ vert ft of sustained fall line. Not much in the way of islands of safety. Nobody had any business being on that slope that day with the Avy rating that day.

. 42 human-triggered avalanches in a 5 day span in Utah, with 14 catch-and-carries

The lack of chairs spinning is bring out the “ once or twice a year” touring people, that severely lack in skills.

On Saturday I rode 10,420, when returning to my car with my partner, a single lady was getting out of her car by herself, with no avy gear and no partner, she asked us if Guardsmans Pass was “ backcountry “ and if you should have “ a shovel “ with you.

We pretty sternly told her to get back in her car and go home, and I literally said to her “ it’s idoits like you that are fucking shit up right now for the rest of us” she told me to fuck off. I said no problem as long as you fuck off and go home.

they look like a cross between Nitro & Rossignol. what was the end result of your Union exploration?

Base plate insert for the screw holding the footbed got loose, so I can't get my bindings off without starting to break something. I guess the glue let go and screw just spinning around now. 19/20 forces. Have been awaiting 2 months now for a response, doubt I'm getting another black base plate with gold stripes. The bindings have been stuck to my PYL the whole season. Lucky the mounting screws did not start loosen up, could ride the board normally, but would have liked to play with the angles a bit.

Ride is not too bad. They remind me of the second to last diodes with the slightly softer highback, but bit more padded underfoot. Great response for the buck, great ratchets, decent comfort from the exo 2.0 ankle strap but not great.

Should have posted this in the union thread perhaps..

For the time being we're gonna move to gig harbor and live with my parents while I do an online UI/UX program so i can add some skills to my resume since most my experience has been in print design. I want to get inthe digital game now and then once I finish the schooling the plan is to move to Bend, OR in fall and get back in the woods. We originally thought about moving to Bend before moving to Utah. We'll prob most likely end up south of bend in like three rivers or la pine. there also a possibility of ending up in North Bend, WA or around the Bellingham area. We'll see we have all summer to actually figure out where we want to end up. We're just crossing our fingers that our house here in Denver closes. We've made it past inspections and waiting for the appraisal to come back.

Good luck, man! I hope that it all works out for you.

Taylor has been on my list for a long time but it seems the conditions are never right when I get out there. About 10 years ago we were riding the creek drainage at the SE bottom of Taylor and rode past some avy deposits that were like a diagonal chain of school bus size mounds. Made my assholeo pucker just looking at them. The goods on that face are so exposed. Idk if that's where he was. But I generally consider it takes a certain amount of rolling the dice on Taylor. Sucks because the pass is getting so much negative attention the way it is.

I lived there for a couple of years and only got it twice, then lucked out once more on a trip back there about 8 years ago, but yea, I’ve seen the same types of debris piles coming out the bottom of that drainage when you drop in from the ridge, Huge shit. It always looks so tempting when your coming down to first or second turn, and since you ride those lines a lot when you live there it’s hard to get Taylor out of your mind...

Currently getting a reset at Eaglecrest. Woke up to about 4” of wet snow on my jeep at sea level, currently wet-snowing pretty hard. Eaglecrest must be seeing 6+, and 3-5 forecast rest of the day. Haven’t split in a couple weeks due to mostly shit conditions, so I guess this is good.

Don’t know if any of you are friends with Quint aka @qurph outside of this forum, but he and his wife are going through hard times within hard times. Some people have a negative opinion on crowd funding, but I think it’s pretty amazing when used properly. My girlfriend & I have been on the receiving end (at the demand of friends’ desire to help, but not going to get into that) and it’s the only reason we made it through some stuff.

Not trying to convince anyone to do anything, just wanted to at least put this here in case anyone wants to partake. I usually am mostly unable to do much financially, but happen to be okay this time and trying to pay it forward.

Quint is a true ripping rider & fellow fish fanatic (also with actual fishing), as is Lina. I had the pleasure of meeting up with them at Hoodoo for a day when I made my Bachelor trip in 2016, and they are in fact the finest of folks in real life.

In actuality this was maybe 6 or so inches of pow on top of frozen, but I will never forget this run, thanks to quint as our guide.

I haven't been fortunate enough to meet @qurph, but I am happy to throw a few $$$ in the pot. What an extra shitty thing for them to have to deal with!

My buddy asked me... Would you choose one bluebird powder day or two heavy snow days back to back where it is just dumping all day.

He went with the bluebird. I went with the 2 heavy snow days.

Virtually impossible to argue the greatness of bluebird pow days, but two pow days vs one? I’ll take two. Storm riding is rad, and standard here anyway. Professional braille rider!

In an unfamiliar zone, the bluebird day; in a zone I know well, two storm days every time.
