I watched his gear talk last night. Painful. Not going to get into the board stuff because it hurts, but the claim that his boot was the first to use a cover on the laces, and that he’s glad to see other companies “adopt” what he came up with is a hard lie. I have to imagine he knows he’s bullshitting, but people continue to eat it up.

For those who haven't already seen. The least relatable, but a fun watch, regardless. Spoiler alert below, don't read if still haven't seen/don't want to know yet 😋.

As most already know, big fan of Ferg & his riding, but well deserved by Mikkel. Never get tired of the classic Ferg methods, esp in insane terrain such as AK, but Mikkel had an insane best run. Oozing style the whole way down (that front 3 at the start of his best run was perfection, really). Was really in his element and his AK exp shone throughout.

RVG was well deserving also,  esp on her best run (her reaction at the end was awesome). But was highly impressed by Zoi. Her first time in AK, and she was BOOSTING. Goodness, her runs in the semis esp, were absolute bonkers. Had that been the final, she would've ran away with the title. She's gonna be a force for many years to come; what a ripper.

*Honorary mention: that Miller flip entry by Rasman was a thing of beauty, also. So sick.

Overall, a great tour/creation by T-Rice & co. Look forward to the next one for sure. Love the new excitement it's brought to our industry ... Jake Blauvelt needs to be invited to the next one, though 😅.

Zoo's run was wild for a 20-year-old who's never ridden in AK. She's clearly super comfortable in the air but wasn't terribly comfortable on her feet. That she was going that big as a first timer in that terrain at that age is wild, though.

I would really have liked to see Marion Haerty compete. She got second in JH by basically not falling, but AK would have played to her strengths. I doubt she would have thrown anything more than a straight air indy, but I bet her line selection would have been fun to watch.

Travis Rice is for sure the guy to pull stuff like this off. He knows what to say and how to work people. I hope he keeps an interest and evolves it, but the concept might be too big for an annual thing. Kind of an invitational champions league for freeride and freestyle. If he keeps inviting riders that still have marketing pull, but aren't as active on the contest scene, it might work.

Interest for snowboarding seems on the way up, and that's great, stuff like this won't happen without sponsors, but FIS is hugging alot of the market.

The 3rd stop was neat to watch but IMO the Jackson Hole event was the most engaging as a viewer.

The announcing and elevator music made for a weird vibe. Sometimes Travis and company get a bit too deep/serious about snowboarding and it doesn't connect with me.

That said, it was cool to watch and see snowboarding highlighted in a way it hasn't seen in years. Looking forward to how it evolves.

Would be fascinated to hear where you disagree with him on boards.

I dig the bibs he had on.

I really enjoyed the Alaska Natural Selection. The drone footage was rad.

Rice summed it up when he said Mikkel has done less turns than anyone. Dude was flowing

the Baldface event was cool too.
enjoyed watching these natural selection events more than any other contest

Was just referring to the hype and the folks who eat it up, not his design breakdown. It’s kinda like Jones & the flagship was/is - nothing wrong with any of the boards, just interesting seeing the way they’re frequently followed almost like nothing else exists.

Theres something wrong with alot of boards for sure:p

What's confusing me is all the expert beginner boards, that people with years of experience in beginner technique can ride gnarly stuff on, but the boards ride like shit if you know how to turn.

I agree, the Jackson event was much more engaging and exciting to watch live. Probably because it was the first stop with the most competitors too.

The music in AK paired with the edits, cuts, and commentary made it feel almost pre-recorded. At least they let it run mostly live for the finals. Some of the huge sends by Mark, Mikkel and Ben in AK were mental though. Crazy stuff

Was the AK event live? I was under the impression it was pre recorded but I was watching the "live premiere" on Red Bull TV. Because it started at noon PST, I think that would be 11am AK time, but in the finals Rasman mentioned he was stiff riding at 7am.

Would have been fun if Zoi SS won an they had to ship that left hand drive Bronco to OZ. Now only one has to go to Norway.

the only event that was actually streamed live was Jackson. BC was fully produced/edited beforehand. I believe AK only had live commentary over edited footage, and maybe just for the finals. I know I saw posts of Sal/Mary/TRice in their commentator setup before friday, but maybe that was for the semi's earlier in the window.
