best of luck to her, I met her and Austin once in NYC and they were really nice
does Roxy draws a lot of interest from the backcountry/mountaineering crowd? I always thought of them as some middle of America mall brand...I guess that's why they pursued Chloe Kim
My impressions was Roxy team is mostly contest riders. Quick glance at their snow team page seems to confirm that. Robin notably missing. Also sidebar: interesting that Torah gets top billing over Chloe.
All the best to Robin. Never met her personally besides hearing her quickly speak at a Depth Perception premiere, but she seems like good people, right fucking ripper, and a Baldface guide to boot. She lets her riding speak and doesn't play the T&A IG influencer card, which I have mad respect for.

Chloe never got top billing at Burton fwiw. But neither did Shaun White… Seems like Burton lost interest in promoting contest riders, esp halfpipe, which makes sense if you think about it, doesn't seem like a high margin segment revenue wise
Took a quick glance at RVGs insta and she confirms that she left Roxy to 'make room for the younger generation'
I have to disagree about Chloe and Shaun never getting top billing at Burton. Shaun had his own outerwear line within the brand, FFS. Both of them were HEAVILY promoted by Burton around the last Olympics. Which female rider did Burton promote more heavily than Chloe? Their whole narrative was about her being the best women's pipe rider in the world and taking over that mantle from Kelly Clark. Who was promoted more on the men's side than Shaun? Sure, Red Gerard also got the Burton love, but part of that was based on his naturally goofy charisma - and he did win the slopestyle Gold...
Agreed with @matty. I recall both always being "top row" talent on the Burton team page. I don't recall White ever taking top-top billing from say Terje, but that's Terje.
Torah Bright is an accomplished rider but she's no Terje... and never had the same level of competitive dominance that Chloe's put up over the past 5-6 years. I'd argue Chloe has already had a more accomplished competitive snowboard career, she's 4 years younger than Torah was after the first Olympic medal in Vancouver, and she's probably the only female snowboarder a random American might know since she's the "Wheaties box" type.

Well from an american point of view, but Australia is a big market for them.

Even if you factor in Roxy's surf presence, the American and Australian markets are nothing close to equivalent. Australia is 40% smaller than California alone on population and close to 15x smaller than the US. If you have comparable recognition in the US as in Australia, your profile is inherently at LEAST an order of magnitude higher. No one knew shit about Chris Hemsworth until he was Thor.
I imagine Roxy's giving Torah top billing because of tenure + loyalty, trying to brand her as the "legend" of the team, and/or (my guess) contractual obligation.
Lando is back home for the holiday. Looks like he’s riding Slash & 686 now. He had been stoked to link up with B after leaving Lib, so I wonder what happened with that. I guess McCarthy @ 686 & friends with Gigi makes sense.
Polish made boards then 🙂

some discussion happening in the random thoughts thread in this, as well as the Outside article on Season manufacturing there.
Thanks for this. Great read and insight, esp re: his ongoing battle with mental health. Didn't know he lived around these parts, too.
